Apple TV constant buffering

Server Version#: 4.66.1
Player Version#: 7.26

Noob alert

I have a plex server running with rclone to a google drive. But im getting constant buffering every 5-10 seconds.

Some info:
Internet Speed on my Apple TV 4K: download: 200+ Mbps upload: 100+ Mbps ping: 3ms wired ethernet
Movie info: 4K HDR Remux 60gb with direct play

Even though my internet speed should be up to the task, im can’t stream this movie. I keep getting the message that my internet connection is slow.

What kind of download speed do you get from your google drive? If your file is 60 GB and 90 minutes, this will result in an avg. bitrate of approx. 90 Mbps. Given movies are rarely encoded using a fixed bitrate you can expect the maximum bitrate to be much higher (max. bitrate can easily reach 1.5x the avg. bitrate).

So what would solve this issue? Pausing the movie for a few minutes until its buffered and then playing?

You could start w/ verifying the stable bandwidth you can get from Google.
If it’s not sufficient for 4K remuxes, you could either upload optimized versions or consider local storage.

Please see attached screenshot. I tried to copy the movie from Google Drive to locally, and this is the stats I got.

Well… that’s not fast enough to stream the file as-is in real-time.

Would it solve the issue to pause the movie and let it buffer for a few minutes or what do you think would solve this issue while still keeping the movie in Google drive

No, Plex will only buffer a limited amount of time – not the entire movie.
