Server Version#: 1.32.0.6973-a787c5a8e (plexinc/pms-docker)
Player Version#: 8.18.1 (Apple TV app)
My setup is the following:
Plex is installed as a docker container on my NAS
The Plex port is behind a Nginx reverse proxy exposed to the web via its own domain (over HTTPS)
Remote access is disabled but the custom server address is set
In my local network, my Plex domain directly points to the NAS. If I access Plex remotely, it goes through an additional reverse proxy. Generally my setup is working: I have multiple apps (iOS, macOS, web) which all can access the server and stream content locally and remotely (even if for Plex all content is considered “remote” as it is always coming from the same reverse proxy).
Unfortunately, the Plex app on my Apple TV seems to have an issue: While it can connect to the server and shows all the content, the screen shows an endlessly spinning wheel when trying to play a movie or a series. It simply never starts (or gets loaded). Looking at the server logs, the Apple TV app is requesting the movie, sorting out the language to load etc. I set the app to allow direct play and always stream at maximum quality. But independently of the codec, no single movie or series will ever start on my Apple TV.
I reinstalled the app, logged in and out but without any effect. When enabling logging on the Apple TV app, I can unfortunately not access the log via the IP/URL as it always leads to a timeout of the connection.
Thanks for your comment. Indeed, Plex on my Apple TV was previously working. But I cannot pinpoint exactly when it broke. So it might well be linked to a new tvOS version.
Yup, I’m sitting with the same issue. My PMS and Apple TV are all on latest versions as of 3 days ago. Apple TV opens live TV, Streams Netflix etc but wont connect to my Plex Server to watch downloaded content which sits on a Qnap NAS device. Set-up has been working fine for years. Previously used ROKU player and switched over to Apple TV about 6 months ago. First time I’ve now experienced this.
Reboots, signing out and in andchecking network settings have all failed to help. Hopefully There is a fix.
