About a couple of weeks ago, the Plex TV app on three of my apple tv’s stopped working. Like straight up crashes every time. I have 4 apple tv’s I use to watch Plex, 2 of which aren’t on my Apple account (they belong to some friends). Uninstalling the app lets me load into the UI to log in, but after logging in, the app just keeps crashing again. Has anyone had similar issues?
My plex server lives on an unraid server docker and I’ve never had any issues with it up until now. I can access my libraries and watch from my iPhone, web browsers, Google TV, etc, just not my Apple TV’s.
Which exact versions of server and Apple TV clients are that?
It appears you picked the version of the web app, not the server itself. Is that the latest regular/public version of the Apple TV app or are you using a beta/TestFlight version?
Also, what Apple TV models are those, and what version of tvOS (e.g. public 18.6 or the tvOS 26 beta)?
My bad. Apple TV’s are a 4k, and three 3rd Gen’s all running the latest OS versions (none are Beta). All are running the standard version of the plex player on them (version 8.45). I’m running plex version 1.42.1.10060.
Yes, I’ve had problems for the last few days. Using Plex on my Apple TV video keeps freezing while sound continues. If I watch the same content on the Plex client built in to my LG TV everything is fine.
(And I still have on-going problems with lip-synch when using the Apple TV.)
Seems I may be an outlier when it comes to this. I ended up finding an app called Infuse that works with Jellyfin and Plex. It let me link up to my plex server. All is good now, but the official Plex Apple TV app is still broken for me
I’m seeing similar issues on my Apple TV lately. I’ll be watching a video and it will randomly crash back to the plex dashboard. Then it struggles to connect again without me force killing the app first.
The error get is:
Playback Stopped
Can’t continue playback because the connection with your server was lost
Similar to others I’ve been running fine for many many years before this recent issue.
