Apple TV Playback issues HEVC content

Hi all

Getting weird issues with playing content on my ATV. My Plex Server is hosted elsewhere. I have a 500 mbps FTTP connection.

This seems to only be happening with larger 4K HEVC MKVs. Nothing too huge (say 10GB for an hour show).

Weird thing is I can open my iPhone app and it works as normal - on the same WiFi to the same server.

Have tried playing around with settings to no avail. The ATV just spins the cog, and there it stays.

I’ve tried Infuse on ATV and that works absolutely fine with the same content..

Any ideas?

iPhone app is on new codebase with entirely new video/audio engine. Vastly improved. Hopefully it rolls out to ATV soon.

Sadly has been an issue with Plex on Apple TV for quite a while now, no fix/work around available, no confirmation if current codebase will be fixed or if the only solution is to wait until the “New Experience” client moves from TestFlight beta to full release (it’s been in beta now for 14 months at this point).

Best workaround that many have found is to use Infuse (paid app) until Plex is able to release a fix.
