Since all my ATV’s have updated to 16.6, Plex is unable to play any Video files over 1080p.
Any video at 4K resolution, HDR etc will not play and comes back with insufficient codecs to playback the source file.
However, on the same AppleTV using InFuse Pro I can play any file that will not play on the AppleTV!!
Also to check there was no weird Plex issue I tried the Plex App on my Nvidia Shield TV and all files played ba k perfectly!
Seeing the same, came here because of it. Videos I played within the last week no longer work, I get the spinning wheel and eventually audio in the background. If I try to force a convert, I get a message about tone mapping and no sufficient codec found.
I have some 4K content that plays, so it isn’t all 4K content, appears to be 4K content with HDR. Example is with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, an episode we just watched last week doesn’t play, the source file is the same date/time as when originally downloaded. But one downloaded more recently that doesn’t show “4K HDR” under the type plays fine. Then the one that just released shows 4K HDR, and is now no longer playing even though we watched it this past Thursday just fine.
Something in this new version broke HEVC+HDR I think, as that seems to be the common denominator. I have some HEVC and h265 content without HDR that seems fine.
When I try to play HEVC content on my apple tv 4k which I have been using for years and had no problem, now does something bananas.
When I play an HEVC title it loads then goes to a black screen…but it allows me to scroll and shows all the thumbnails.
The show plays on plex on iOs, MacOs, Roku. I don’t get it.
