Hi, I have been reading all the topics about DNS and APTV3 in the forum but it didn't help.
Here is my problem:
I have installed on my PC Plex media server and Plex connect. In another room I use a wifi connection (Cisco DPC3825) to watch my movies on my Apple Tv3 (Software 6.1.1) through the trailers.
Everything worked just fine until I had to change my ISP...
My APTV3 configuration used to be the following:
Dir IP: 192.168.0.13
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router:192.168.0.1
DNS (automatic): 192.168.0.1
I just had to change my DNS so it matches with my computer IP (192.168.0.11). Everything was so perfect.
Since I changed my IPS the automatic DNS is (I don't know why) : 200.49.130.44
When I change the DNS to manual and write 192.168.0.11 the APTV doesn't connect to internet and Plex either...
I assume that it's pretty obvious to a network expert but it's not to me.
What's in your settings.cfg?
Can the PC access the internet?
Have you tried changing the ip_dns to the one your ISP provides and the restart plexconnect?
Yes, my PC access the Internet. I didn't have to change anything.
Ok then I think it’s time to provide all the information listed in the “read before posting” sticky thread, specifically the throubleshooting section, this helps investigate further
Did your modem/router get swapped out in the ISP transition, by any chance? If your ATV is pulling that 200.x address for DNS, sounds to me like it's not on the same NAT subnet as your PC.
What is your Apple TV's IP address? Ethernet connected or WiFi?
If your computer's IP address is 192.168.0.11, then your Apple TV's needs to be 192.168.0.something, or it won't be able to see the PC (i.e., they need to be on the same subnet). If they aren't, then we try to figure out where your ATV is getting its IP from, and then fix that. If they are already, then there's something else weird going on.
It almost sounds like your ATV is on a different subnet, maybe your router is segmenting your wifi from your Wired lan. Can you try with a cable to the ATV and see what happens?
I would do the following (supposing that you have one, and only one router at home):
Put the ATV in "DNS automatic" mode and write the IP address of the DNS ip that it gets from the router
Put the PC where you run PMS and PlexConnect in DHCP mode and write the IP address that it gets from the router
Edit "Settings.cfg". Parameter ip_dnsmaster should have the IP value obtainned in step #1. If you also have enable_plexgdm = False that you must set ip_pms to the IP obtainned in step #2
Put the ATV in "DNS manual" mode using the IP obtainned in step #2
Put the PC where you run PMS and PlexConnect in "fixed IP" mode using the IP obtainned in step #2 (in some routers you can do this in the router admin page)

I did it, on my APTV instead of "wifi" it says "Ethernet" and:
IP: 192.168.0.13
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS:200.49.130.44
I don't understand where this DNS is coming from !

I did assigned a static IP to my PC from the router but it does the same thing...
I came back from holidays this week end just to realize that my computer rebooted because of an electricity cut (witch runs my PMS) and Plex Connect on my Apple TV did not work anymore.
I rebooted the ATV2 and my Mac. And I have the same problem than described above.
My Mac and ATV 2 are on the same subnet 192.168.1.xx. But for an unknown reason when I manual switch the ATV2 DNS with the one of my Mac, the ATV2 don’t see anymore my mac nor internet.
The weird thing in this is that it was working before. And without changing anything, just because of a reboot of my mac, my plex connect installation is down.
I uninstall and reinstall properly OpenPlex on My Mac
I restored my ATV2
I changed Plex Icon from Trailers to iMovie
And… Miracle all is up and running
