First off: Thank you. This is the first client since PHT that doesn’t have me clicking 14 times to do small stuff constantly, and I am so, so grateful for that. PHT still does a couple of small common things faster but this is finally to the point where I might finally be able to let PHT go. Again, seriously, thank you guy so so much. PS: High Contrast Mode! Plex looks like Plex again! I can read all the text on my screen again, even during the day with light streaming in all the windows. Much love.
So, feedback time:
- In the left panel, “Home” and your “Username” menu entries appear to be completely redundant. You could remove “Home” entirely and nothing about the user experience would be lost (but you would have room for 1 more pinned library on screen).
- I will personally give the Plex dev that allows me to pin a Collection into this new left-panel $500 bucks, for real. Paypal or ApplePay or whatever else it takes, Collections are a great feature but they’re still wildly second-class compared to a proper library, UI-wise, but they allow for items to appear in multiple places, which is really hard to achieve without nesting your libraries (which does work, sort of, but can’t really be considered a supported feature, and has side-effects). I would love for Collections to be brought to the front of the experience!
- When you turn off “Remember Tab” (thank you!) clicking on the library goes straight to the library view, but pressing “Back” on the remote back out to the main screen doesn’t return to the “Recommended” view, until you arrow down to another library and then back up to the current one. This is so, so close to returning to the usability-style of PHT. (This specifically was tested on the Roku build, i’ve got a roku on one tv and an appletv on another).
- Are there plans to have List views available in Library or Folder view again? The list view in Playlists would be perfect for Library view if the giant “cover art” area of the screen updated to match your selection in the list.
- Can you reorder or edit the items that appear in the Recommended view of a Library? Having “Continue Watching” appear 3rd row (off-screen!) by default in a Movie library feels a bit odd to me (i understand it’s the top-most thing in the Home menu, but I have lots of libraries and prefer to view their content separately).
- Subtitles and Audio tracks: All my subtitles and audio tracks for every movie in my library use their “Name” metadata in mkv to actually describe what the subtitles/audio are (regular? SDH? Forced? Commentary? Trivia overlay? Musical Score Only? Audio Description Track?) This data has pretty much always been displayed in Kodi, and it did briefly show up in Plex once upon a time, but seems to have gone away again. Trying to select from multiple subtitle tracks when you’ve got a list of 4 that all say “English (PGS)” isn’t helpful. Can you display the actual name of sub and audio tracks in the track selection, if it exists? This information shows up in the Info of each movie in PlexWeb, but doesn’t appear in the actual “select a subtitle” UI anywhere.
seriously though, i’m super excited for the future of UNO. PHT is way beyond it’s expiration date but i keep clinging on to it for it’s big-screen simplicity.
