Just spent the last week organizing my entire music library to put it in Plex. Got it all in today and was so happy it all worked so well, until I tried to play songs from my ATV.
Playing one song works just fine. I see the album art, the song plays, and the counter moves as it should showing the time of the track. However, when I swipe to the next song, no artwork, no moving counter, no ability to do anything except quit the Plex app and wait until it is fully quit until the music stops.
Also tried swiping up to see the playing next queue and clicking on the next song. Same issue, though this time I can still select another song from next queue as long as it is still open, but if you select another song, everything stalls again.
When I say everything stalls, the music keeps playing but I cannot navigate the Plex app, pause playback, or do anything other than hard quit the app.
Would love a solution because right now it seems like no one tested this before launch.
Would be great to hear from someone regarding this issue, as playing music is currently unusable and I would love to be able to use Plex to do so on ATV.
Just tried reproducing this behavior on both 7.23 (Testflight) and 7.22 on an 1st gen Apple TV 4K. Seems to be working as expected on my system (e.g. playing from a playlist and jumping between tracks will bring up the correct posters and interacting with the player).
What ATV model are you using?
Do you experience this with your own music, shared music or music from Tidal?
Any specific configurations on your setup (e.g. using the legacy player)?
This is an AppleTV 4 (not 4k). I am running the latest PMS ( 1.24.1.4931) and 7.2.2. This is my own content. I do not use streaming music services.
It’s reproducible every single time as described above.
Not using the legacy player, and have the modern interface enabled. I have tried it without the enhanced player and without the modern interface. Same results.
All of my music is in AIFF format (some directly ripped to AIFF from CD and some converted from FLAC to AIFF).
Any movement on this? I’m regularly having playlists stop after 3-5 songs and then freezing the app entirely, requiring a force quit of the app to start it again. Really annoying that it loses my place in a playlist and necessitates me killing the app and restarting.
Only happens on AppleTV, as well. No issues when playing music in PlexAmp on my computer or on my iOS devices.
I’m having the same issue playing .aiff files on my AppleTV 4k. All content plays fine through other channels. AppleTV will play the first aiff song, and the app will hang when the second song starts playing. The only way out is to force close the entire app. I think it is limited to aiff content.
Yup. Still a huge bug in Plex music making it unusable. For Thanksgiving I tried shuffle playing my dinner music playlist and it got to the end of song 3 and stalled. Had to force quit The ATV Plex app, and ended up not having music playing during dinner because I didn’t want to spend time tech’ing Plex.
All of my music is AIFF. Would love this issue to be addressed. It’s been quite a while.
Just trying to keep this thread open as the Plex engineers are apparently just ignoring things at this point. Does anyone want to respond??? I mean, we paid for Plex passes, shouldn’t that at least dignify a proper response?
Replying partly to keep your thread alive. With 7.26, I am able to play mp3 or flac from PMS on a Synology and can skip forward and back on an album. I do find the player buggy however. Just played a whole album, but when I tried to choose another, the tile for the artist disappears from view. Then I try to choose an artist and the tile is replaced by the artist to the left so that there are now two of those artist tiles and the one I wanted disappeared. Repeat with another artist, same result. After an AppleTV restart, I can select the artist and playback works for a while.
Unlike you I was trying out Plex on a brand new AppleTV 4k replacing a gen 3 AppleTV and hoping that Plex could be library and player for everything. Would happily pay for a Plexpass if it could. Combination of bugs and seeming lack of support response to bugs like yours means I’ll need to keep looking at other options.
