File is transcoding the file container only where it direct streams the video stream (1080p HEVC main10) and direct stream the audio (EAC3 5.1) also has a stereo aac-he stream inside a MP4 container. I have included trancoder logs, server log, and MediaInfo log with a picture from Tautulli.
Curious if there is a reason for it or if something I should change in the encode.
Direct Stream is for all intents and purposes as good as Direct Play; it causes very little overhead on the server; as your title alludes to, it is just “remuxing” the container, not actually transcoding the video or audio.
Are you seeing any playback issues that you’re concerned about?
No playback issues, but I was curious if there was a way to get it to Direct Play. It’s Mp4 to Mp4 which I just don’t really understand would be causing the remux. As far as I can tell its all encoded to match Apple playback capabilites.
All of them, the whole season is like this. Direct Plays on my RokuTV just fine. Seems to only be the Apple TV having trouble with the container to my knowledge so far.
I noticed in the remuxed version, the bitrate is smaller. It’s actually almost what the aac-he stereo stream size is. So it looks like its removed the stream completely. Why is that? Is aac-he not compatible? It’s the first stream, followed by EAC-3 5.1. Unless its something to do with the actual settings of the Apple TV itself. I do apologize, I’m new to the AppleTV scene.
EDIT: Went through the AppleTV settings, everything was setup properly. Connected through the soundbar (supports all the formats up to Atmos). Stumped at why it’s removing the stereo stream…
