Why is this file transcoding?

Server Version#: Version 1.32.6.7468
Player Version#: 8.24(6661)

I typically don’t have issues getting files to Direct Play from my Intel Mac mini to my 4K Apple TV, but this one is hanging me up. MediaInfo reports the following - any guesses as to why it’s transcoding (or how I can get it to Direct Play!) are much appreciated:

The Apple TV reports:

Video: Copy (HEVC)
Audio: COPY (EAC3)
Player: AVPlayer
Reason: ...no direct play video profile exists for protocol http with container mkv and video codec hevc

The Copy indicates that those are direct streaming, which is just Plex copying the video/audio streams to a different container. You should still be getting the original quality, there was just something incompatible about the original container, so it decided to repackage the streams before sending it to your ATV.

Plex is remuxing it from MKV to MP4 (transcoding the container, not the contents).

I did notice that the file was still playing at full 4K resolution. Thanks for the explanation!
