Are custom/3rd-party media agents leaving with plugins?

I don’t really use any Cannels/Plug-ins or other 3rd-party apps with Plex so normally I wouldn’t care about the plug-in announcement. I do however use two 3rd-party media agents that I really would miss.

Now, my guess is that since Plex itself uses the infrastructure for media agents, they are probably in the clear. But the blog post doesn’t really say anything regarding them.

Can we get some clarification this?

Agents are good/save for now

Yep, there’d be no way to import using .nfo without the xmbc nfo importer agents so they’re safe. Wish it was offered/ built in by plex as a default though.

Just to add on here, we cover scanners and agents in the FAQ we posted this morning.

My biggest worry about the blog regarding plugins being removed was with the Trakt.tv plugin.
Pretty essential for anyone running two servers. :disappointed_relieved:

I’m trying to understand whats been said a little better. So when it says the Plugin Directory will be removed from the Plex Web App. That means that the access and also access to its settings (gears icon) will no longer be available. Is that correct ?

Since no other App allows access to the Settings for a Plugin, this will render the Plugin useless.

Thanks.

Agree with the OP… I use the Audible Audiobook plugin since Plex still doesnt have any proper audiobook support nor audiobook libraries…

I wouldn’t care about removal of features so much if you provided a replacement…

Still wondering why Plex doesn’t have Audiobook support when it’s been desired and asked for feature for years…

That’s what i would like clarification on as well.
I don’t think not having access to the plugin’s settings necessarily makes a plugin useless (especially after it’s set-up), but i guess it depends on the plugin.
I might be ok with them not working in plex web app, but if my plugins wouldn’t work in openpht/pmp/android plex, then that’s a friggin deal-breaker and i’ll never update my PMS version again so this doesn’t happen. It doesn’t sound like this is true though, for the moment.

@coder-alpha @ncohafmuta That is not the plugin directory. That lists all your installed plug-ins. The directory is where you go when hitting the Install Plugins button on top right. You still will be able to access settings of your installed plugins

basically the install plugins button will go away and the pages it went to will be gone

Thanks for the clarifications. So the removal of the Plugins Directory (the install plugins button) is with the next update as per the posts. Would you know when are they going to be removed in total as per the blog posts.

There are no set dates on when plugins will be totally removed. It will vary by player app. I think the web app will be last to remove them but don’t quote me on that.

Two little tools that may be helpful:

Thanks for the heads up. I guess it could be a last resort.
I would still prefer using Trakt in the middle though as I view on things outside of Plex occasionally.
Plus I think there is far more chance of me installing Emby than learning docker from scratch. Even more when one Server is Windows and the other Linux.
I appreciate the heads up though. It may be an ideal solution for many. :grinning:

I honestly don’t see the point of removing Plugins until a better method is implemented. Many people spent a lot of time writing them, and many others use them daily. Tossing them out because they’re inconvenient to you is really bad optics.

I’m seriously considering dropping Plex for good if I see plugins disappear from any of my clients.

I understand we don’t/won’t share all details for every business decision and that can be frustrating. They are not being removed just because of a single reason of “inconvenience”.

Sorry to see you go if you decide to do that, and we understand the folks that use them like them, else they would not be using them. But as they are now they will disappear from clients over time.

I’m more interested in keeping my collected/watched info synced to trakt for trakt analytics and tracking what I may be missing… If there is an external app like Tautulli I wouldn’t need the trakt scrobbler plugin…I don’t care about the syncing into Plex. Plex is my “source of truth” for data, and I don’t maintain multiple instances… though marking a movie i went to in theaters as watched with trakt seams nice… but marking it watched in plex after ripping is just as easy.

If we can’t have the plugins I think I’m done with Plex. I use it for streaming music remotely, but I can find another platform. Otherwise, I use the plugins.

Way to hurt the user base that built your company. I wish I hadn’t paid a lifetime Plexpass. It’s really offered me nothing. I just wanted to support a company that delivered something that worked and was useful.
