Are there any Plex clients that work with watch from start timeshifting?

Its been years with the Android TV watch from start problems. New threads on this topic are started regularly… My preferred platform is Android TV. I have 2 TVs and an Nvidia Shield all Android TV. I have abandoned Plex as a Live TV/DVR platform since the watch from start is something I need to work. Im currently using NextPVR backend with Kodi Frontend which works flawlessly.

Is there a platform where this actually works? As an example could a use a Roku stick and have a working watch from start? It would also need to have direct stream passthrough.

I have been so disappointed with this since it stopped working quite a while ago (maybe a year). I just tried on my AppleTV and it works as is should. There a few things the AppleTV does better than the Shield (mainly connecting with other Apple Devices).

Hope Plex fixes this someday, it did use to work.

Do not trust Plex with your money for Live TV/DVR. It’s broken more than working. Many ongoing posts about Android right now where “Play From Start” goes live instead – which of course really sucks for sports since it spoils the event for you.

Timeshifting for sports doesn’t work at all on any client. With sports, we usually record extra time. However, during that extra time, Plex removes the playback UI until the recording is completely finished – sort of like a retro VCR-like experience (but in a really bad way).

Live TV is not even working in the web client right now. Can only watch for 3 minutes then the server terminates the session.

And you’d think it would be better on higher end streaming boxes like the SHIELD. But, based on the forums, things are just as bad on the higher end boxes.

Don’t waste your time/money on Plex Live TV/DVR.

For a while I was using NextPVR with the Hauppauge tuner. Worked flawless but I didnt like the need to run a heavy Kodi client

Moved to an HDHomerun tuner and am using their DVR software. Also flawless timeshift playback… Yeah kind of clunky UI but I can record NFL games and timeshift playback perfectly

My advice for those who need this functionality is to move to something else. Its been literally years with this issue. There are other solutions out there.that work just fine.
