Lifetime member here that decided to submit my very first post on Plex forum as I’m completely frustrated with this reproduceable and frustrating bug. Imagine recording a critical sports game, like a playoff run for your favorite team and you want to start the game 70 minutes into the recording with the “watch from start” option, and it FAILS!!!
As a result the recording goes live and you see the latest score of the game with a full house of guests that came over to watch the game that you’re hosting. This has literally happened three times with me. I’m using Plex Home Server (hosted on a Windows PC) that is recording live TV over my HDHomeRun Prime (over LAN) and watching it on my Plex app running on my nVidia Shield.
Please tell me this is a known issue that is being worked on because this is a huge bug that should be resolved with highest priority.
Also, there has to be a way to disable Recorded TV Thumbnails. Like who wants to see a thumbnail of a sporting even where you clearly can see the score of the game in the thumbnail?
Again, this just completely ruins the recording experience for any sporting events.

I just posted about this in the streaming devices forum, then realized I should post about it here. This happens to me as well on my FireTV, so it appears it’s an Android app issue. It doesn’t happen to me through the web player, Windows app, or on Roku.
Like most live TV bugs, this is yet another one that was submitted years ago, but the higher ups at plex couldn’t care less.
The only real solution is something like Channels DVR or Emby. They both work as advertised.
I’m seeing this also. The “Watch from start” doesn’t work. However, I can manually go to the start of the show that is recording.
Another bug I’m seeing : when watching an ongoing recording, subtitles fails to show at all no matter what you do. I verified that when watching the same channel live, the subtitles show without issues, and that when the recording ends the subtitles are there and you can enable them. So it is really a problem when watching an ongoing recording.
I noticed some other strange issues when the recording end, but you are still watching the show live : more often than not, the playack fails and you are not able to resume (the error displayed at the time is a generic “weak signal, check antenna”). So to continue watching you have to go to the recording that is now visible and search where you were kicked off to resume your playback.
I warch almost all football by recording and then starting to watch after it’s been on for a while. This bug ruins that process by always starting live. Today I installed Channels DVR on Linux Mint (Ubuntu derivative) along side PMS. It was amazingly simple and quick to install and have running in about 20 minutes. So far it works cleanly and just as you want it to. Downside is that it tags commercials so you have to click Skip Ad as each one comes up. It also costs $8/mo vs Plex’s $5. But it works, so I’m switching to it. If Plex worked right it would be preferable. But it’s not currently.
Also, Channels has no Roku app. But it does for Google TV (was Android TV) on Chromecast and Sony smart tv’s.
Unfortunately, almost anything else works better than Plex DVR right now. Even free alternatives have better scheduling options (manual recording by time/channel and keyword recording) and handle the most basic of functionality expected of a DVR (i.e. watching in-progress recordings). Plex DVR just seems to be a mess and fixing it really seems to be low on the priority list. I fully expect that the DVR features will be dropped altogether before they ever get it working right – and what a legal mess that’s going to be with all the lifetime pass holders that paid specifically to get Live TV/DVR.
I have this issue and it is really frustrating. Skip at all backward to rewatch a play while watching a live NFL game and Plex gets lost. Skip back to rewatch a singer on the Voice while watching live, Plex gets lost. Let a program finish recording, works fine. The issues are only related to while watching live.
10 Days? LOL. Its been YEARS that this problem has been around. It wont be fixed. Do yourself a favor an do as I did. Move on to a different solution. Posting here asking for a fix is not going to get you anywhere.
I have Plex on a qnap 451+ NAS running linux. I use the firestick 4K. I frequently check the CPU load and RAM and never see any indication that Plex might have performance issues with trying to show a program that is being recorded but normally trying to watch while recording there will be issues. In the past I have had Direct TV dvrs and Comcast dvrs that do this very well. Why not Plex?
