Yes, it’s been going on for more than 10 months and hasn’t been fixed. And it’s just one of a number of Live TV/DVR problems that haven’t been fixed for months.
I only recently seeing the choice of “Watch from Start” or “Watch Live”. The weird thing is it that it happens on shows that I am not recording. I would understand getting the choice if I was recording the show. But I am not recording it.
Oh, you didn’t say that you were not recording on your original post. Not sure why you would be getting the option then unless another user on your account started the recording.
Is it possible that you might have stumbled into Plex’s “Movie’s and Shows” area which is not related to Live TV/DVR at all? I never use that but having the option to watch from the start would make sense there.
This is specifically referring to the Watch from start or watch live feature when a show is being recorded already - either manually or via scheduled recording task.
@johnvic I have not seen any settings or options for this this feature in Plex or PMS and even though the issue could be related I would open a new post for your exact issue.
I remember from a while back this is only broken for Android TV, but wanted to open a new post for this as it can’t just be ignored - after all it did work really well couple of years back.
I decided to just try and see what would happen if I did some routine tasks. I don’t have a very large library, and generally just watch morning TV to get the weather. I also record a few shows. Although the problem I was having was with shows that weren’t being recorded. So I deleted some old shows, rescanned the libraries and optimized the databases. I’ve watched live tv a few times since then and have had no problems. Maybe things just needed a clean up? Anyway, it seems fixed!
@johnvic the issue you describe is different to the issue described in this post.
This post is specifically related to when you start watching a show from the TV guide that is being recorded in the background and could be let’s say half way through recording/live,
An example would be the nightly news - it starts at 6pm and Plex starts recording it at 6pm as per schedule you have set. You turn on Plex at 6:30pm let’s say and want to watch the news so you go to the guide and select the 6pm news. Plex will now ask if you want to watch it from the start (6pm) or watch it live (6:30pm).
Selecting “watch from start” (6pm) is the feature that doesn’t work.
What device are you using. The Android TV Plex Beta fixed this issue this past week. If you are using Android TV check to see if you are running Beta. If not you can wait a bit for the non beta release.
IMHO Plex releases are usually beta standard anyway - but no I am not running betas so I will wait with excitement to test this in the official release.
This appears to be working now for me. I didn’t test the beta, so it seems like the fix has been released to prod. I just wish there was a proper way for me to report the over DVR problems I’m facing!
But at least we can no watch from the start while it’s still recording.
Again not working - dialogue box appears to play from start of live, selecting from start doesn’t work just plays live.
Only way to watch a currently recording show is to select to watch it live, wait for about 30 seconds for the timeline to appear and manually scroll back to the start.

They must have fixed this recently. The last few days, with my Shield TVs, Plex has been starting playback, from a live recording, at the beginning. When you select the option to start at the beginning. A week or two ago this was not the case.
