Hi everybody,
I have issues with a couple of audiobooks / comedy albums that contain correct metadata (artist and/or album artist), but are shown twice as the same artist.
This is about the Artist Arschkrampen. On the left (for some reason) there is even an artist image of the original artist, Dietmar Wischmeyer. On the right, there is no image whatsoever. Why are these not one single artist?
Below are screenshots of the details per album (first is from the left artist, second from the right). The artist is the same. What do I need to change in order to group them under one single artist in Plex?
“Arschkrampen” is not an artist. It is a character invented by Dietmar Wischmeyer. That’s why you get a photo of him.
Did you enable “Prefer Local metadata” in the properties of your library?
If you go on inventing your own artists, you will have to do that.
But doing so does also affect the other items in your library.
So take great care to adhere to a strict folder organization:
Audio / Album Artist / Album Title / Tracks
Inside a certain Album Artist folder there must be only albums by that particular album artist.
Perhaps the folder organization is to blame here. Usually, my folders look like this audiobooks / Album Artist / Album Title / Tracks, but for Dietmar Wischmeyer and Oliver Kalkofe (and other things from their “universe”), I got audiobooks / Frühstyxradio / Album Artist / Album Title / Tracks.
There is absolutely no need for this other than that I thought organizing things like this was more sensible when also accessing my media via the command line.
Also, it seems like different providers (plex / beets / musicbrainz) don’t always know how to tag these kinds of files. In my previous plex install, I had
Dietmar Wischmeyer
Dietmar Wischmeyer & Oliver Kalkofe
Dietmar Wischmeyer und Oliver Kalkofe
and then some, I believe
as Album Artist for Arschkrampen albums. That’s why I “invented” Arschkrampen as an individual artist. When I want to -for example- shuffle their tracks, I don’t want other things by the actual artist Dietmar Wischmeyer to play as well.
What do you suggest? Just using a smart playlist and have them as all these different artists?
Thank you! That’s great news and makes much, much more sense. Especially because there are some artists that simply don’t exist in any databases (bands too small to have official releases (yet), for example).
