I added an artist video ("-live" suffix) to my music library, in a a folder of one of that artist albums.
The video appears in my artist page, however no thumbnail is created: A black rectangle is presented for this video clip.
Music videos of that artist have thumbnails.
How can I edit/force a thumbnail myself?
I added a png file with all the suffixes I could find (-art, -backdrop, -background, -cover, -default, -fanart, -movie, -poster),
with and without the -live suffix, scanned the library and refreshed metadata and still no thumbnail.
There’s a discussion on changing the episode thumbs when Plex insists on Spoiling Sporting Events.
The principle is the same:
Pull up Plexweb, play the item, at an opportune moment hold down Alt and press Printscreen.
Open Paint - hold down Ctl and press V. Crop to perfection and save as the video file name.

This is The Video File.jpg <— just name the image the same as the video file

@JuiceWSA: I created png files with all the options. Now also jpg as you suggested, see attached pics.
Scanned library files and refreshed library metadata and still no change.

Can you not select that artwork if you ‘Edit’ the item?
(sometimes that doesn’t snap right in)
Plexweb/Settings/Server/Agents/Music/Movies/Shows/All Tabs therein…
make sure Local Media Assets is checked/enabled.
It doesn’t have to be in the top slot - I don’t think - but it does have to be turned on.
Best to move Local Media Assets to the bottom of EVERY AGENT LIST. So extreme pain and suffering doesn’t occur when using MP4/M4V files. Leave LMA enabled - just Demote.
I think a png will work - a jpg is smaller though… not that it matters that much… but eventually everything matters.
