Yup i posted a topic about this on here, for my 55pus7303 but the update from their site solves the problem. thanks!!
Same problem here i have version 107.000.222.001 and can’t reinstal the tv over usb. Manual update not working for me.
I tried download and copy the latest firmware inside the .zip to an USB drive. Insert the usb stick in the tv and the installation won’t start.
Any idea how to fix it?
Thank you for posting the solution, the update resolved the issue for me too.
question for all you ambilight tv owners, how do you feel about your tv, other than issues in this thread, is it otherwise working well?
would you buy it again or buy a newer model?
Just to keep you all updated,
This issue still persists, even now three firmware updates later. Currently on TPM171E_R.107.001.038.000 with my 55POS9002.
Philips have released a support article stating that this needs to be fixed by the 3rd party app;
https://philips-tvconsumercare.kxondemand.com/Portal/en/Faq/All/7111
Well, this is a [offensive to some sensitive minds] answer from Philips.
We don’t have to set a wrong aspect ratio in VLC or any other app to compensate for their buggy driver.
Same firmware (038), same issue here.
Same issue here too Philips 50POS7303 firmware 038, after upgrade media app will play full screen only, tried also from usb stick same problem!!
No I wouldn t buy philips again
Today i’ve checked for updates, new version available, after the update everythings fine

what firmware version?
@luke777
I just update my phillips 43PUS7363/12 to version TPM171E_R.107.001.038.000 and now it works. I have not tested too many movies but the ones that I knew had the problem before, those movies are now working perfectly
@frederik8722_gmail_com, good for you!
It still does NOT work on our 55pos9002.
Same problem again after the message with the new designed player… I can reset to the old style player but still the same issue…
I need a favor, and maybe it will help some of you too:
On my 65PUS7304 the aspect ratio in PLEX and Emby is okay, always has been. I have this TV for a month now. But other apps aren’t all okay.
Is the aspect ratio issue also fixed by Plex itself? Because it’s so strange that both Plex and Emby do not have any issues, while other apps have. Somehow I am afraid it will come back.
a Favor:

Can somebody with a Philips TV where this issue is solved test another app: NOVA Video Player, playing a video with dimensions such as 1920x800.? And let me know if the aspect ratio is okay or not. I want to know if the issue is solved for all other apps too, after any Philips software update.

Whether you have a problem or not. Are you able to retrieve an ADB logcat file? I’m curious what dimensions it will output, the NOVA app. If you don’t know how to do that, I can explain it to you. It’s easy. And you can do far more with your TV when you get introduced with ADB. Doing this might lead to an overall solution for this issue. I need to compare my TV to others.
Ik have the latest Philips update, december 2nd 2019. The update mentioned above which should solve this issue is now old. I can’t install this update (downgrade) anymore…
When I take a screencap with ADB it comes out fine, while on screen it shows a wrong aspect ratio in NOVA. That’s very strange.
