Plex for Android TV Aspect Ratio issue (vertical stretching) all of a sudden

Server Version#: Version 3.83.2
Player Version#: Latest Version

Having an issue with my Plex for Android on a Sony Bravia all of a sudden. Whenever I play a video on the TV, it stretches to fill the whole screen tv no matter what the resolution of the file is. Most of my MP4s are letterbox but now are stretched.

Looking at the info of the file within Plex, I see the following:

Media

  • Duration 1:41:23
  • Bitrate 2532 kbps
  • Width 1280
  • Height 720
  • Aspect Ratio 2.35
  • Video Resolution 720p
  • Container MP4
  • Video Frame Rate NTSC
  • Web Optimized No
  • Audio Profile lc
  • Video Profile main

When taking a look at the file within Quicktime, I see the following:

Format: H.264, 1280 x 720 (1694 x 720)

If I change the TV to convert the file, the aspect ratio fixes but the quality becomes bad.

Does anyone know what would be causing this all of a sudden?

This is also happening in my Philips TV - 49PUS7503

It’s been almost 3 months ago that I don’t use PLEX app in my TV because of this. I have to play movies either from TV’s own media player or VLC, using LAN connection and PLEX Server as video source.

Please fix this, c’mon…

I have the same problem on all my Philips TV’s… Factory reset, clear cache, reinstall does not work!
Any fix for this issue? It’s been going on since Oreo update…

hello… same here with Philips but if i reboot everything works fine for some days.

What is the status of this issue @kisonay on your devices?
People keep having the problem where Android TV + Plex is stretching videos to fill the screen, and they can’t figure how to make it play in it’s original mode.

What are the exact steps to take if anyone knows? Thanks

I no longer have the issue but unfortunately don’t remember what exactly fixed it. Not sure if it was a PLEX app update, PLEX server update or something else all together.

I haven’t had any issues for a few months now. Sorry I’m not of more help.
