At least 3 pieces are broken in 6.5.0.1737

After installing the last beta Plex is a bit of a mess. Issues I have been facing until now on my Sony Bravia with Android 7.0:

  1. I can’t start Plex from the Discover menu anymore. Clicking on the icon it simply does nothing
  2. Still no DTS supported no matter what’s written in the update description in Google Play
  3. The “black” bars in videos (at least in HDR) are not black (or gray), they show a piece of the preview image before playing the video. I know this issue is known already by the developers, but here is a sample:

Regarding the infamous DTS support.. It wouldn’t be a major issue if the Plex server was converting only the audio track. I believe it is possible because I have a 4K video probably non very well encoded, and Plex converts only the video, leaving the original DD 5.1 track as it is also passing it through as DD 5.1 to my receiver. About which, congratulations because only Plex manages to do it. Even with DD Plus (EAC3). All other apps just convert to PCM 2ch.

Ok, this is the situation after the last update:

  1. I managed to have Plex starting from the Discover menu, but only after removing it and adding it again on the list of my apps. It’s quite slow, though
  2. Please, Please, do something about DTS audio!!!
  3. The black bars have been fixed. Although they are still grey (and annoying) with HDR content on Bravia TVs.

Actually I have a couple of other ones:

  • After watching a video, no matter it is finished or I clicked back few times to stop it, there is an icon in the Leanback launcher (Home) suggestions showing that it is playing
  • The streaming with UHD content is slower than before. Although I don’t know if that actually depends on the server (macOS).
