Anyone running Plex on DS718+ with DSM <6.2?

I’m running DSM6.2b on my DS718+ and I’m having major issues with Plex. Not sure if it’s DSM or Plex but still, but would be interesting to hear from other DS718+ users how Plex is working for them (perhaps both 6.2b and non 6.2b users).
The problems I’m having (with iOS-devices):

  • Videos doesn’t play at all (sometimes)
  • Videos play without subtitles (stop and play again and the subs are there)
  • Subtitles out of sync. Stop and start movie and they work.
  • AppleTV4k playback doesn’t work most of the time.
    All media I’ve tried are x.264 or x.265.
    I’m most curious how Plex works on non 6.2b on DS718+ if it would be worth the trouble of downgrading…

DSM 6.2 is not supported because it’s beta. It is impossible to support a moving target

This point has been stated in various threads throughout the Synology forum.

As DSM 6.2 gets closer to release, we will upgrade a few of the systems in the NAS lab, test PMS on it, and make any final adjustments / preparations for it.

If you have recreated the issue, and it’s still in your logs, with DEBUG level logging only,

Please gather the log files (settings -server - help - download logs) and attach the zip
Also please attach the XML or the PMS reported Media Info.

Here it comes I hope. x.265 stuff seems to be working better than x.264… I’ve attached the xml from a video that struggles… well it plays sometimes but now the spinner just keeps spinning.

EDIT: Attached more logs+xml from another file with subtitle sync issues. Seems to work fine with VLC.

It is best if we address one issue at a time. We can do both in the same thread but one issue at a time. Regarding the subtitle sync, I will need: all the version information, including the iOS and iOS app versions, PMS, and both subtitle and video file samples. I must be able to recreate it. Doing do also allows me to write a very clear and concise “Steps To Reproduce” the Engineering. With that information, they will be able to resolve it much more quickly.

I did not find any errors in your log files.

The playback devise reported is Plex/Web not iOS.

Let’s do this again. I attach new log+xml.
11:44 - Movie started to play but I got no subs (even if there’s .srt available)
11:45 - Stopped the movie and started it again. Spinner spins forever. Plex UI however says it’s playing.

This issue above is not just for one movie but for all of them (however, x265 seems to play fine, I’ve tested a few).
Sometimes stopping/starting will fix the subtitle issue (but sometimes they gets out of sync aswell, restarting once more might fix it however), this is not however not in the logs attached (they’re random more or less).

Results from my iPhone 8, iOS version: 11.2.2
Plex-app version, latest one: 4.23.1

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to track this problem.

PMS is not detecting your processor’s GPU and trying to do everything in software.

I strongly recommend you download PMS 1.10.1 (public version) and install it.

There are reports of the problem you see with 1.11.0

Spinner still never ends… Attached latest logs. I don’t think you’re looking at the correct time in the logs, the file mentioned above is not the one I’ve had issues with… But perhaps you know what you’re doing. :slight_smile:

Crossing my fingers for a new Plex release soon that fixes all problems with DS718+/AppleTV4K. My AppleTV4K is just a brick for now (nothing plays) and Plex on my iPhone8 is useless unless I download videos for watching instead of streaming. :frowning: I’ve never had issues like this before, everything started when i upgraded my stuff DS718+/iPhone8/ATV4K… :frowning:
