At my wits end. Buffering on Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro

Server Version#:Latest
Player Version#:Latest

The server is on my PC.
Windows 10 x64 Latest
1gig ethernet + Cat 5e @ 15 metres

That runs into a netgear modem/router that shows it at 1gig ethernet connection.
Then another cat6 ethernet connection to my nvidia shield 2019
Modem/router also shows this as 1gig ethernet connection.
Nvidia shield also reports 1gig ethernet connection.

The file is using approx 77mbps (4k/10Bit ect)- (Dolby Vision dual layer is present but not supported could its presence alone cause issue?)
Its being played via “Direct Play”
It loads fine but eventually it’ll stop and say “network connection is slow” and try to buffer then resume playing.

I have noticed it barely buffers anything at all even after I pause it for ages (Bad buffering on the app?)

I have noticed on my computer the network traffic will jump to around 350mbps (at highest) in peaks but then go down to near nothing (0 mbps) and just consistently spikes its traffic every 5 seconds or so (why not just 1 continuous push?)

I have been searching every little thing on the internet so I can finally fix this! shield pro 2019 was suppose to be the ultimate player and its not delivering :frowning:

All im left with is 1. The plex software is bugged/broken/not built to play high quality or 2. Potential hard drive limitation

So do I go buy an external SSD (another few hundred dollars) and just pray? Or is there something else to be done… going crazy trying to figure this out!

If no one can help me fix this some other way ^ Can someone let me know if I can change the buffer settings so it can utilize all of its storage… a good few minutes buffering would surely fix this right?

Look at the players logs. I believe it should say how much data it is (not) receiving that caused the error https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

It looks like its ENTIRELY the app/player itself with the problem.

I installed KODI with PLEX AD ON and I turned on the same movie that griefed me for hours yesterday and monitored the traffic.

Kodi + Plex Ad On = Consistent traffic between 35-90 (AVG 60 Mbps) with 0 buffering at exact same quality standards.

Just plex on its own = Not consistent traffic. Only 350 Mbps peaks (or lower) then straight back to near 0 Mbps.

The consistent traffic of Kodi + Plex Ad On has eliminated my problem (for now).

Please fix the normal app please.

If we’re to find what the root cause is in the app, we’ll need the logs and a bit more information, as mentioned previously

I might have the same problem as you. I notice this only with high bit rate sources and at a few repeatable places in the movie.

My solution was to switch to the old media player. The problem seems to be the new media player.

Like you, I have an Nvidia Shield Pro with a solid gigabit connection and no problem with the same file on Kodi. In any case reverting to the old player fixes it for now.

That’s not a long term solution, as we will be removing the old player. If you’re having issues, some more detail and logs would be much appreciated

Can you point me to a post on finding and retreiving the log?

Edit: nevermind, I see the link for logging

Log attached. Hope that helps. I confirmed again that the buffering problem does not exist on the old player and also plays fine on Kodi.

Detected memory pressure, reducing segment count to fit available memory: 512 < Is this the culprit?

Whatever is stopping it from a steady constant download and only pushing thru “peaks” is definetly my issue but that line looked scary haha no idea what it means tho

Was any patch dropped that fixed this?

Can I grab a sample of that file, please?
