AT&T Fiber Internet Blocking Plex login

Understood. I’ve never used it myself, I just remember seeing the setting previously while configuring my server.

If my assumption about casting is correct, initiating the stream from your iOS device would be confirming your “authority” with the server to then hand off the access to the stream to the Droid device.

Guys may be you want to tweet to att or like or retweet mine to push from there too.

Yes it is 172. I was also told that if I can set up a wireless hotspot that I would be able to just log my self in that way but I guess my dam wireless plan doesn’t offer it. I’m just starting out with plex and I’m not that techie of person lol I’m pretty sure I deleted my server last night I was so frustrated trying to get it to work.

I’m not on twitter, but you might want to point to @Uverse ‏ and @ATTBusinessCare

I am going to try this. Hopefully it works! Thx man

I will do that too thanks

Still not able to log into my account. has anyone found a fix yet? I’m considering getting a VPN now.
Unfortunately I didn’t find this thread earlier, but this is the one I started it has the screen shot of what i now see in the last 48 hours.

I can’t believe this isn’t fixed yet. So basically have to get a vpn to get plex to work?

Yep switching ISPs tomorrow. Not messing around with a company that can’t/wont fix their issues.

just remember to make sure your not given an Ip Range in there NAT… or that they support port forwarding… you may have to penny out for static IP or else get a double NAT which i am stuck with but since my internet is free i cant complain about relay use

Its still yet to be determined if this is a problem on the AT&T or Level 3 peering side.

I have posted in the other thread that I spent the last hour on the phone with technical support and they cannot see any issue with contacting plex.tv. They offered to perform a factory reset of my modem and if that did not work, they offered to replace said modem. I declined their offer. Going back to Cox tomorrow. I have had them before and have never had the sheer amount of network headaches that I have had in my time with AT&T fiber.

That seems a little rash, considering the problem can’t be proven to actually be AT&T’s fault. The network tools point toward it probably being Level3’s fault. But you gotta do what you gotta do. You can likely get some kind of credit out of AT&T as it is, or maybe get them to give you a static IP block for free. That will basically let you bypass the problem like others here have, including myself.

You’re probably right. If I don’t solve this soon though my wife will force me to add some TV package to my long list of monthly bills because “Plex is a headache” … All of our issues have been related to AT&T thus far.

Would it help the AT&T and Level3 support teams to resolve the issue faster if they had traceroutes from both sides? The AT&T client side and the server side? I know that would be asking a Plex Ninja to get IP addresses from some of us and do a traceroute from one or more of their multiple servers hosting plex.tv. But it is getting harder and harder to wait for them to fix it. I don’t want to throttle my Plex server with a VPN because these support teams can’t fix their problem.

I find it hard to believe that this issue is impacting only connectivity to plex.tv, unless it is intentional.

And I’d lean towards the issue being at Level3, since they did take down a large portion of the internet not long ago with a BGP error, and my company uses Level3 for our internet and we have had these issues with them a number of times.

I can watch my content locally with my local subnet authorized to connect without authentication, but there is still a good delay in the Plex client connecting while it tries to access plex.tv before it times out. And my Android Plex clients for my Plex Home users are not working without access to plex.tv.

Traceroutes from the plex service side would likely be difficult. The forum moderators are unlikely to have access to the front end web servers that host plex.tx in the Amazon cloud.

And it most definitely is impacting other services besides plex. I believe this issue makes large portions of Amazon cloud inaccessible. Supposedly access to large portions of Azure were impacted as well.

What I’m hoping for is that this kind of issue prompts AT&T to make some changes with their peering agreements.

There’s no other internet option for me for anything close to the price/speed combo of the AT&T fiber. I’ve seen network issues like this on plenty of other ISPs in the past, so this just isn’t that crazy of a problem to me.

I’d really suggest using this issue as leverage with their retention department before I’d consider switching. That’s actually what I plan to do even though the problem is bypassed for me for now using one of my static IPs.

From all the traceroutes I have seen so far, I think the block is in the Level 3 network.

Noob question: what is level 3 and are we able to contact them?

An Internet backbone carrier.

Yes you can but since you are not their customer you won’t get very far.

Keep in mind what the internet is. It is a network of networks. Level3 is a large network provider. They have a large global network. AT&T connects to them to get customers access to large portions of the internet.

You could try and track down a number for them, but you’re not their customer, so very unlikely that call would get you anywhere.
