ATV2&3 Solution with new HTTPS?

Hi iBaa, moodyblue, etc.

I’ve been using plex connect for years! Great solution to keep older tech from becoming useless. I have Mac OSX 10.13 server running PMS, HDHR prime, ATVs ranging from 2-4 and try to keep them all alive and kicking. My last solution was to use PMS, HDHRViewer.V2 and Plexconnect 0.6

I used open plex in the past but only to change the icon as my ATV2 will not change using iBaa current or old. My hijacked app was iMovie. Of course with the latest apple changes this app no longer works. Time to rebuild a new solution.

I can successfully use plexconnect 0.7.4 but it doesn’t have channels so therefore no HDHR.Viewer. It does have Live TV & DVR but the viewer is what I would prefer. Ok so I dropped back to 0.6 and I can get channels but no artwork for any of the library.

My two questions are;

  1. Is there a way to get ATV2 trailers icon to change? (I only had success using open plex and iMovie.)
  2. Can I run 0.6 and still keep the fan art? (Maybe an older version of Python)

The main problem with 0.6 is that it still uses old PMS interfaces. For example, if you create a new Movie, TV Shows, or Music library it will not work, so you have to stay with old libraries forever. I think that with 0.6 you will not be able to login to plex.tv, with all its consequences (remote library access, plex home, etc),

Channels are hidden by default in PlexConnect 0.7.x but you can enable them in settings → general appearance

Fanart requires python support for pil. If you are using jailbreak this is not possible.

PlexConnect 0.7.4 loads plex icon, no problem, and will be maintainned even if you go back to 0.6

This was my issue. Thanks again for the help. Prefer to run current always i just couldn’t use my HDHR plugin. Still struggling with the ATV2 icon, ATV3 worked fine. I posted the issue on github unless its better here?

If ATV3 is ok so should be ATV2. The process is exactly the same.

Ok great thanks for clarifying. I’m using a fresh pull of 0.7.4, and following the wiki from GitHub. After multiple attempts I can get the ATV3 to change every time but the ATV2 will not? Any ideas or logs I can pull?

I don’t have ATV2 so I can’t replicate. But the ATV3 process has been reported to work with ATV2:

  1. Remove jailbreak (in Windows I would use iTunes, in Mac there are other tools)
  2. Unplug internet cable from your main router (WAN port)
  3. Follow the wiki to complete the process

Which app are you trying to hijack ?

Ok I’ll try that and report back. I’ve been trying all different methods for a while but never had success with the ATV2 and trailers. I used to be JB years ago so I will try doing a DFU restore in iTunes like you suggested. I’ve only restored recently OTA so maybe that’s it.

Again not a huge deal if I can’t get it. iMovie worked using OpenPlex but only if I changed the icon url to the old one.

Unfortunately still no joy. Not a huge deal im happy to be up and running on 0.7.4
Previously to get iMovie to work i changed “icon= iMovieNewAuth” to something else. (Cant remember or find it now but i think it was on the forum somewhere.)

If i can help with any troubleshooting on the ATV2 let me know.

It’s no longer possible to hijack iMovies and some other apps. There’s an open issue in github.
