Using the latest ver. 0.6 on Github I have managed to install and get OpenPlex and PlexConnect into a functional state, i.e. I can view movies on my PMS, hijacking Trailers
HOWEVER, The d----d icon simply won’t change! According to the instructions provided by the OpenPlex app, I get to where I have changed AND SAVED (?) the Settings.cfg, now containing “icon = /Applications/PlexConnect/assets/icons/icon@720.png”.
I re-start OpenPlex, and Settings.cfg immediately changes back to contain “icon = com.apple.imovietheatre.appletv”.
I have tried making backup-up of Settings.cfg, restoring Settings.cfg but whatever I do it changes back to default as soon as I restart OpenPlex.
Needless to say, the icon on my aTV’s never changes…
If I remember correctly, we put some code in to decide on the icon resolution automatically. And aTV3 would actually pull in a @1080 version, I guess.
I have never done this nor worked with that OpenPlex myself, but are you sure you have to enter the whole path/filename as shown?
Probably it’s better to wait for wahlman.j to chime in, though.
Only Cyberghosts theme & mine are coded to do this at this time. Are you using openplex or another plexconnect host? OpenPlex is not required but the same icon steps are required to replace whichever icon you desire.
OK, I’m using iBaa’s… I’m using OpenPlex for the moment, thought it would help me/make it easier to het the icon change to work… Two faults out of two possible…
Thanks for the link - I have been trying to locate it but the link from Github is broken since Plex was hacked.
Still no luck - all icons are blank, aTV seems to re-start initiation/configuration of the storeFront over and over again. Is this line really correct: icon = movie-trailers ???
Is there anywhere I can upload a OpenPlex log for you to have a look at?
Why not try iMovie theater instead? Im confused why no icons load? Is your ISP not very fast or from experience using wifi (on your aTV) takes a bit longer for the storeFront (apps) to load.
@wahlman.j: ISP is normally OK (ADSL 20Mb dl), wifi OK.
How long is “a bit longer”? Are we talking hours?
Have made changes to WebServer.py (changes to Settings.cfg and DNSServer.py where already done after running OpenPlex) as per the new method you sent (jdrydn), icons placed in ./assets/icons/, running only PlexConnect - seems to work acc. to log file -
BUT - ALL ICONS ARE BLANK!
I agree. I haven’t done a icon change in a bit maybe a week or so but no, it doesn’t take but a few minutes to load the storeFront when everything is in place. If you followed all the instructions I’m not sure what is holding it up. PlexConnect works normally otherwise aside from this issue with the typical icons? If you want to click my name send me a PM and install teamviewer I could give it a look another day when you are free but everything should be in place when using either of the available themes. Only thing is it’s hard to assist while your ISP is disconnected since it will terminate the teamviewer session. You are resetting the aTV settings properly as defined in the OpenPlex icon tab instructions?
At what point in time is the Profile setting in aTV supposed to be changed? Is that at the same time as the DNS setting is changed?

So I have started from the beginning again, now with PlexConnect running from IMovie, but again without Plex icon…Or any icons for that matter, seems that i have to set DNS to default to get reload all the other icons?

Its not required during the icon upload process, only after.

Why not just use iMovie then? Do you use the native iOS app?

In my experience all the icons load including the changed icon simultaneously in my geo location (USA). I don’t need to change the DNS from the PlexConnect host ever.
Finally, got it working on two aTV’s! It took “a while” (3hrs) to load the Plex icon. After unplugging all aTV’s but the one I was working on it worked. Checking the OpenPlex log (set to logging level High) led me to believe that the other aTV somehow interrupted loading configuration and icons. Still, I had to change DNS to Auto to reload the rest of the icons.
I don’t understand why geolocation and/or ISP should make a difference. I have had difficulties downloading aTV firmware upgrades in the past.
I don’t either but maybe in your case it does. Care to share your geo location for others that may face the same issue? Also did you get trailers to work or did you go with an alternative icon/hijack?
I’m in Sweden. Since I got the Plex icon to “stick” on the iMovies placeholder I decided to use OpenPlex to generate certs for iMovies. Trailers worked for PlexConnect, but I never managed to get OpenPlex/icon download to work.
I would be very grateful if you can tell me how to generate cert/pem for iMovies from command line. I only know the cl for trailers. For one reason or another I have had to re-generate certs occasionally in the passed, probably after updating OS X.
OpenPlex will do this also as I assume you know w/o using cl. You can also backup your certs then turn on the auto cert/hijack loader so they are loaded no matter what theme you use.
Im getting dizzy here with all different methods, using either trailers or imovie. Im running the very latest plexconnect and and atv3 with 7.2. I just wanna replace any icon (trailer/imovie doesn’t matter) to a nice plex icon that will stay after a reset if needed. Any guide/links/whatever for the easiest way? Im familiar with ubuntu server and editing settings files etc. can’t just clear out which method to use. OpenPlex is not an alternative for me!
Only Cyberghost84’s theme or mine can currently change the icon. Other themes can but you would need to edit the themes files to do so. Both themes are set to change iMovie icon by default.

I need to edit web server.py to add some lines? And also use imovie instead of trailers? Then create new certs for imovie and then do a reset of the atv?
Seems like Cyberghost link in the tag is a preconfigured PlexConnect setup? “Download PlexConnect/Theme”. Is that true? If using this, what should i need to do at the atv?
