ATV3 not directly playing video.

Hi all,

I have been using plexconnect for a while now with my synology and haven't had a problem until now.

I recently bought a new tv that supported hd so i decided to start downloading all my media in 720, some videos play directly but some of the others don't, all my videos come down and are converted to mp4/h264 and aac audio, which are the recommendation of apple.

Here is one of the videos that don't play.

Any ideas?

what do you have your local streaming speed set to on the atv in plex connect, the only differences I see is the one that doesnt work is over 3Mbps and the other is 2.8Mbps, if you have your atv set to 3Mbps 720p, it's going to transcode it down.  Set it to 4Mbps 720p and see if that helps.

I think the problem is ref frames = 9 in the first video. Try transcoderaction = DirectPlay and if it works you have two options:

  1. Use transcoderaction = DirectPlay
  2. Use transcoderaction = Auto but change the file iOS-AppleTV.xml (it's in one of the Plex Media Server sub-folders) and increase the reference frames parameter

Which Syno model are you using ?

I can't seem to find anywhere to change the setting in plexconnect, but I found it in the webpage of the plex server which was set to 3mbps so I changed them to 4mbps.

I can't seem to find that file in any of the folders, the only preference file I remember is the one in the plugins folder, which seems to reset every time the server restarts.

I have a Synology DS1513+ with 4GB ram.

PlexConnect has options in the GUI on the top bar as you start it, these are the options being referred to

Those files may be out of spec due t the reference frames as already said so that is why they transcode by default.
