Audio Books

Has anyone thought about supporting audio books in Plex? With Podcasts now supported I think audio books would be a great next step.

No, no one has ever thought that might be a good idea. :smiling_imp::innocent:

Actually it has been asked to have audio book support for many years, pretty much since Plex came into existence.

Plex does support resume and other features needed for audio books and I use Plex on my Fire TV for audio books without many problems at all.

However I did have to come up with a method that works for me that is not true audio book support but does work:

  1. I use 90% audio files that have been combined together into one large file.
  2. All my audio books are played using playlists to group them together.
  3. I do not use my Fire TV for anything else.

Plex does not properly sort audio books but I browse by folders and create playlists and Plex does sort the playlists the way I expect them to.

It ain’t perfect but it is pretty good for me. BTW: The reason I use my Fire TV for this is that it can easily be controlled by my Echo devices (linked to my Fire) and I pipe the audio from the Fire throughout my house. This all allows me to stop and start the playback by simply saying “Alexia play” or “Alexia pause.” This means that I can easily listen to audiobooks anywhere in my house.

Of all the various ways I have tried to play my audio books this is the best I have found for me.

I’d love to see true audio book support as well, not just a workaround to make audio books work. Preferably support for Audible files as well as Barnes & Noble’s (never actually used Barnes & Noble audio books). I hate the fact that these formats aren’t very widely supported.
