I have a large library of mp3 audiobooks. Support for audiobooks seems to be a popular request. Is there a workaround possible? Maybe to add to TV or Music?
A music library works OK.
I have finally found a use for my Fire TV.
It has a folder view for audio.
It can be controlled via my Echo devices.
It is pretty easy to setup a whole house system with the Fire TV.
I linked my Fire to my Echos and use an optical to RCA converter to get a feed for my sound system that feeds my entire house and now I can be in any room and listen to my audiobooks and simply say Alexa (or Echo) play or pause and start/stop my books.
Since audiobooks are LONG I do not need to worry about playing by name but I “think” even that is possible.
While it is not a perfect solution and the only file I have metadata for are the ones that have embedded data but, for me, that matters very little as all I really need is the file name and all my books have been made into one large mp3 each.
Plex is VERY unlikely to do more for us audiobook fans.
Actually it does create a problem; due to the lack of a separate “Audiobooks” category in Plex I had to create a second “Music” Library with my Spoken-Word-Audiobooks (Stories, Comedy, Podcasts, etc.), now Alexa will only suggest and play these Audiobooks through the Plex skill when I ask her to play Plex Music, which is not what I want.
I guess the best way to solve this Problem would be to finally add an “Audiobooks” category for Audio files instead of only having to call everything “Music”.
I hope they implement a solution to this problem in the coming updates as I would really like to finally use my Alexa to play all my Plex Music.
I wish they would its so frustrating.
That said I do use a separate music library for audiobooks. Its a kludge but one I’m not very happy with, mostly due to metadata issues.
I have to admit given all the other sidetracks thats been added to plex I’m pretty frustrated there’s been no movement on audiobooks.
Yeah, I don’t get this either. They’ve added scads of stuff I could give a rip about, but not audiobooks yet. Seems like there’s certainly interest from the customer base…
