+1 Would really Love

+100500 for audio and e-books. Plus photo section would be great

+1 for audiobook support. I can’t stand iTunes anymore

This would be so awesome… please do it

Until the Audiobooks section is officially supported I have a working fix for getting Audio Books into Plex that will work on phones and roku as well! Obviously it is not as good as official support but this is probably the best you are going to get for now. It is fast too, only takes a few min to get your book into Plex.

Items Needed:
MKVToolNix
Dummy Video Track (custom 10 min blank video) tiny file @ 124 KB
BulkFileChanger (optional)
Audiobook maker like Markable or Chapter and Verse (optional)

I use Markable to convert the audio files into an m4b using the “spoken podcast”’ settings in itunes import settings. But this is optional, separate mp3’s will work fine with these instructions.

  • Bring your imported file(s) into MKVToolNix. If you are using multiple audio files you will need to add them with “Append Files” option (right click in the files section)

  • Add the dummy video track I created. This track is 10 min long but we will use the “Stretch by” field to make it fit the audio.

  • You need to compute the stretch factor of the video to fit the audio. If you use my video track then use this formula ((Hours x 60 x 60)+(Minutes x 60)+Seconds)/(10 x 60). This will give you the scaling factor of the 10 min video file to the length of your audio book.

  • Select the video track from the “Tracks, chapters, tags and attachments” box and paste the computed value into the “Stretch by” field on the right.

  • “Start muxing” your file which will quickly produce an mkv file without re-encoding anything.

  • Edit the mkv file in BulkFileChanger or other program of your choice to set the creation date on the file to the proper year of the book. If you don’t do this now then Plex will import it with today’s date and cannot be changed without removing and re-adding the file later.

  • Place the video and cover art in a folder the way Plex likes. I prefer to use the “Home Videos” library type but you may choose to do it differently. Just make sure the library scanner is set to Personal Media

  • Edit the imported file in Plex to add descriptions

Just bumping this up there since it needs attention :stuck_out_tongue:

+1 This would be a great additional feature!

+1 This is the most wanted feature from myside!

+1 for me as well. Would absolutely love to have this feature.

This would be awesome +1

So Plex Team

Are we working on it ?

I hope everyone who is adding a new +1 post is also clicking the like of the first post. As @BrodericKlemetson said

Writing another post does not show plex that you want this feature, please go back and like the original post to make it more prominent. This feature is already on Plex’s feature request list 3 times, please go to those threads and like the original post to make it gain even more priority. Here are the two threads with the most priority likes so far, voting on these will be the most beneficial:

https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/57673/very-popular-remember-position-for-audiobooks/p1
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/122524/audiobook-library-option/p1

If you haven’t already done so please follow those links and like the first post as they are already the most popular. Get enough likes to get the admins attention and maybe this feature request will go somewhere.

  • 1 on the audio books

Until the Plex team sees the light and at least adds FF/RW and resume to the audio functionality there is a couple of workarounds discussed in this thread:

The workarounds discussed there work on Rokus but do not seem to work on any other Plex player unless you go to the trouble of converting the audio books so that they have a video track. I guess the Plex player is a bit more forgiving in this case.
Note: The resulting “fake” videos must be direct played on the Roku. The new Roku channel handles this but the older channels (RARflix and Plex Classic) have to be forced to direct play as the “automatic” mode does not detect the files correctly and the server cannot transcode files without a video track.

This is ONLY a workaround it is not intended to be a way for Plex to support audiobooks but until Plex decides that those of us that are unable to comfortably read books or want the consume audiobooks for other reasons are worth supporting it is one way to get it done.

Audiobook support should not be as hard as the Plex apologists make it out to be. At least for me I do not even need, or particularly want, metadata support. I just want to be able to play my books through the same device and in the same way as I can my music, movies and TV and even display my pictures.

This is not hard it is just, apparently, unimportant to Plex.

The workaround I mentioned does work but I dislike using it so, until Plex has basic functionality for this, I am forced to have two media systems: One for video and music using Plex and one for audiobooks running on a small computer using Mediamonkey.

I would love to see audiobook support too.

Thanks for the info mate

Audio books are now mostly supported.
You may want to have a look at this thread, beginning with

It seems to have finally gotten the attention of the developers and we even have one making comments about it. To sum it up, you can turn on the remembering of position in the advanced tab but it still marks complete at 90%. They are aware of that and working on it.
