Audio out of sync

Same issue here with Live TV. Video ends up ahead of the Audio by a couple of seconds. If I skip back 10 seconds it goes back into sync but after a short period of time it drifts apart again. Changing audio settings on my TV did not help.
Nvidia Shield for both server and client. Samsung T5 External SSD formatted as device storage.

Plex Media Server: 1.15.5.994
Roku Ultra (4660X): 9.0.0 - Build 4142-46
Plex Player (on Roku): 6.3 - Build 5.

Same here. Even when there is no transcoding, after resuming the playback of any video, the audio AND subtitles loose sync.

Very annoying.

I stood up a separate virtual server with a different OS (Cent7) and I am experiencing this and having to delete codex files periodically on both servers.

Changing the picture mode also seems to have worked for me. Will see if its just the first 10mins or so. Will report back.

Audio gone out of sync again

Noticed this as well as of late…worse than it used to be. Sometimes restarting the server helps…but that should not be necessary.

For the record: I am running the server on the machine that is viewing it.

same issue here with Roku

Same issue with Plex Windows Server and Windows client. Pausing the playback seems to fix the issue temporarily.

XML attached for a file that does this to me on a Roku Premiere. I’ve been noticing this lately with my Pawn Stars episodes. As the episode goes on, the timing seems to get worse and worse. Resuming a file in progress seems to reset the sync.

Had the NHL finals on the other night and the sound got out of sync by 15-20 seconds. As usual, I quick skip backwards solved the issue, but still frustrating having to do that.

This worked for me! It’s only an issue when I’m trying to play older .avi files. I believe it happens when the video is transcoded on the server, but the audio is direct streamed. So it makes sense why this fixes the drifting audio. Thanks for the tip.

So I have two Rokus and a firestick.

The audio started going out of sync a month or so ago on new files on the rokus.
Old files are fine. new files on firestick are fine.

I play new file on roku audio out of sync
I play new file on another roku, audio out of sync
I play new file on Firestick, audio IS FINE
I play new file on 1st roku again audio is out of sync
I rewind that video on 1st rokyu a little and play, the audio is in sync or better
I restart the new file on 1st roku audio is out of sync.

This is very frustrating,
Is there a way to downgrade the roku plex app? I assume it was upgraded and that is what caused this?
Can someone from Plex acknowledge and pinpoint the issue?

Thanks

Got the same problem. My hardware and config are less important then this: I’m an IT pro, and after reading all these posts I must conclude this problem is most likely NOT platform or hardware specific. In other words, it’s NOT a Roku, Chromecast, Playstation, etc problem - or it’s ALL of them, including our beloved Plex!

So, go do some troubleshooting! What’s your media- mkv, mp4, avi, or a mix? Which has the problem, or is it all media? I would also compare audio streams. Go see where you can make changes. What can you change in your Roku, Chromecast, Playstation? I have Roku, and I can say there’s not much, I’ll be focusing my efforts on what I can mess with in Plex. And don’t forget your TV! There are a few comments about TV mods that fixed it, and (without getting into specifics) this is a LIKELY problem area.

Meanwhile (until Plex puts out a fix) when I see its happening again, I will do what I do - hit my Roku Main Menu button, re-launch Plex and get back to my fave Hitchcock movie with lips and sound both on planet Earth!

The only time I have personally noticed this issue is while playing back content with old-school DTS audio in the Plex app on my TCL 6-series Roku TV. Since the issue does not occur with the same content in the Roku Media Player, I can only point a finger at Plex.

For me, There will be either a crackle or a very brief gap in the audio during playback. This occurs once every 10-15 minutes. Each time, the audio becomes a little more out of sync moving farther behind the video by between .1 and .2 seconds each time. Either stopping and restarting the video or a brief rewind brings it back in sync.

With my Samsung Series 6 4K TV Plex app, the audio out of sync delay was due to a TV setting under Audio > Expert Settings > Audio Delay (and then change it to 0), shown in the screenshot here:

However while trying to play the same content on the latest Plex Media Player in Windows 10, there is still an out of sync problem with audio. I have tried to disable Direct Play in both the app and PMS however this did not change things with this Windows app. Unless there is a fix that anyone knows of that I am not aware of, this seems to a be a bug with the latest Plex Media Player, being version 2.36.0.988-0150ae52 ?

I have the same problem with Roku App… Since a few week now… i’m ok with the samsung app…

I have sync problems occasionally (Roku’s). When it does I hit the ole’ down arrow, scroll over to settings and remove the check-mark off of ā€˜Allow Direct Streams’. Don’t know if this helps anyone…

i am having this audio sync problem, and for a couple weeks have been troubleshooting it as much as i could even to the point of buying new roku players. here is my situation:

this is a new problem – everything used to work perfectly but without changing anything, i noticed this in the last few weeks (i moved a few months ago and during that time didn’t watch plex much – it’s likely this problem has existed long before i noticed when i started to watch some series again recently). when the problem occurs, most of my movies/episodes through plex have a problem with the audio and video being out of sync. this ONLY happens in plex – netflix, youtube, hulu, spectrum cable app, etc all play perfectly fine without sync issues. the ā€œfixā€ some people have suggested to use the audio receiver’s delay function is clearly not reasonable since, although changing that delay can bring the audio into sync within plex, it breaks audio sync everywhere else.

at first i thought this was due to using and older roku box, so i bought new ones. after setting everything up, i was frustrated to see the exact problem remained even on the new roku. i dug further and, since i have several setups in several rooms, i found one thing which stands out.

for our main tv (the big one i want to actually watch most often) everything is wired through a surround receiver. so roku, cable box, dvd player all go through the receiver via hdmi and then the receiver passes the video signal on to the tv. this is also the only tv which says audio is ā€œdolby digitalā€ because of the surround receiver… not sure if that matters. in any case, even though the audio is out of sync via plex, all other apps play sound perfectly in sync all the time.

after finding the sync problem on the main big tv, i started to check the others – for 3 of my rokus, they are wired directly into the tv using either just the tv for sound or a soundbar that is wired directly to the tv. there is no additional surround receiver, just roku directly into tv. all of these play the same movies/episodes perfectly fine that are out of sync on the other tv setup.

after digging on the forum a bit, i saw people suggesting trying various things like rewinding 10-seconds (did not work), and various combinations of changing the direct play options. in my case, click the down arrow and going to the settings menu and changing ā€œdirect playā€ to ā€œdisableā€ seems to solve the sync problem. the problem here is that it’s not a persistent fix and every video i watch i have to re-do this. additionally, it just seems to be sub-optimal solution, essentially a bandaid instead of a proper fix. this is especially true since this was never a problem in the past and it used to work perfectly fine without changing these things.

so for me it seems that the sync issues are non-existent if a roku is plugged directly into the tv but if it goes through a surround receiver and direct play is used then it will be out of sync. and again, it’s ONLY in plex, perfectly fine everywhere else.

Found a separate thread that got closed since it didn’t have a reply in a certain amount of time. I’m glad Plex is all worried about the interface and ā– ā– ā– ā–  but I’m starting to get pissed that I’m paying $5 (I know it isn’t much) but I still can’t play any of my recordings without converting them to MKV first.

My Roky Premiere seems to have enough horsepower to figure it out but my two TCL Roku TVs and anything in a browser starts completely out of sync playing back TS files.

If Plex can’t get this fixed then I’m going to have a hard type continuing to pay for something that I can’t use.

Thanks,.
Richard
