Audio Preference Of DTS/AC3 Over AAC

Let me start by stating that this isn’t about which is better format. Even if the thought is that AC3 sucks, then I would like to be able to play all my media in the format that sucks, plays well on my equipment (that sucks) and that I prefer .

For the most part, my Movies & TV Shows are setup with 2 versions as follow - 720p [AC3 2.0(256k) 5.1(640k)] &1080P [5.1(640k) DTS(1509k)] with the highest audio being the default. For years this has been working fine and the best audio is always picked. All the rooms in the house are setup with Roku 3/4, sound bars and or surround sound which play AC3 and DTS but not AAC. Only things that plat AAC are tablets but they all play AC3 also so there should be no need to trans-code audio.

Recently, I’m noticing that everything is being trans-coded to AAC 2.0. Even worse if the video is a lower quality and has AAC it is chosen over higher quality video with DTS or AC3. If I choose direct play and manually select DTS then everything is fine. As far as Video goes PMS is heaven sent and saves me a lot of work, lately Audio is a whole other story.

I Wish There Was A Way To Disable AAC All Together. Don’t get me wrong I have no problem with it being used on my phone or tablets but other than that I have zero need for it.

AAC Shouldn’t Be Forced On Everybody.
Perhaps, there should be an option to select Direct Play Audio or preference order,
like DTS, AC3 5.1, AC3 2.0, MP3, MP2, AAC 2.0, AAC 5.1.
