Audio selection issue

Hi,

i can't choose the language from the movie page. If i change language e.g. to japanese or english it will not happen and plex will still play the movie in german (main language). If i select the audio section during the movie play the change from one language to another is still working. Oh, in the preselection area i can still change the kind of audio (ac3 or aac).

Is this a feature or a bug?

Mike

P.S. The Trailer Button doesn't work, i must select the trailer from the extras beneath the movie poster.

I guess it depends on the media type...

- the settings done on the PrePlayScreen will control PMS -> transcoding

- the aTV settings during flight are available with native files -> direct play m4v

(same with subtitles, comparing external/embedded codes)

trailers... what's wrong with trailers?

If i select the trailer button in the preselect area i only get the spinning satelite and "waiting for trailer". It's not bad, cause i can still select the extras beneath the poster.

Strange. I double-checked. Button "trailers" works for me.

Keep in mind, that this feature is a PlexConnect only feature, requesting trailer information at moviedb (?) and the video itself at youtube.

The new "extras" button is for the PMS delivered content, ie. the trailers you actively put into your library. Does this have an auto-search feature, too?

Due the fact that i receive my extras only through the PlexPass Feature i've no idea what happens if i put extras manual to my library. Also i thought that the trailers button in plexconnect is linked to the plexpass feature, too.

I’m having the same issue with the language selection. All my files are m4v and have primary audio English, secondary audio German. Earlier I tried to watch Frozen with my little girl who only speaks German and when I selected German on the preplayscreen it would still only play in English. If I’ve understood correctly do you mean that choosing German there would cause the PMS to then transcode the file to allow it to play in German but selecting German during playback will then allow the file to direct play and in German?

Hm, no, I guess it is the other way around:

If PMS transcodes you have to pre-select the language in the PrePlay screen. This forces PMS to ship the correct audio, aTV only gets one language track.

If aTV plays the file natively - not transcoding whatsoever involved - the aTV internal during replay settings can be used. ATV "sees" all the audio streams, and can change language on the fly.

Or the other way around: During transcoding the aTV/iOS language selector won't give you any options, with direct play the PrePlay button has nothing to say.

Ah sorry, I must have misunderstood you. I thought you were telling the OP the reason we couldn’t change the language in the preplayscreen was due to the fact PMS would transcode to allow the second track to be played and the PMS in question wasn’t powerful enough to do this which is why it hadn’t worked.

I never actually checked to see whether any transcoding was taking place on either audio track. Just found it strange that language selection on preplayscreen doesn’t work yet during playback it works fine.

I never asked, but is it normal that i can’t change the audio while the movie his playing (Holding down the select button)? There’s no audios/subtitles in that menu.

The only way i can change it it’s in the preplayscreen…

That's weird, you can do exactly what I and, if I've understood him correctly, the OP can't. When I change it prior to playing the movie it always defaults to the primary audio track.

I have to start playback, once playing press and hold the select button and then change the audio tracks.

Weird like you said… I my case, the only way it’s in the preplayscreen…

It really depends on the video type - transcoding vs direct play.

Ah! Get it now, my videos are all transcoded.

Does aTV direct stream mkv files ?

>Does aTV direct stream mkv files ?

Direct Stream - maybe, depending on the codecs used (h264, mp3).

Direct Play - no.

What's weird?

I'm actually still confused if I'm honest. Shouldn't both the preplayscreen and the menu during the film work regardless of file type? I don't understand why it works when I choose it during playback but not when chosen in the preplayscreen.

What i understand is that if it’s transcoded, PMS need to know witch audios/subtitles you want before playing. If it’s direct, PMS will start the default one, than you need to change it yourself…

which makes sense but if I select an audio track in the preplayscreen then that's me telling PMS which track i want but it then always defaults back to the primary audio track.

I guess this is how direct play works. Did you try to disable the direct play option from PMS settings?

Just when direct playing a file, PMS does NOTHING to it. ATV just grabs the

So everything you told PMS before (like subs/audio stream) just isn't taken into account. ATV doesn't check back with PMS.

And thus far, we haven't found a way to sneak into the aTV own subtitle selector page (during replay).
