Audio settings for movies and shows

Hey is there an option that i can set my default audio for movies to german and subtitles to only forced ones?
and can i set the default audio stream for my series folder to e.g. english?

You can set an account level language default across Plex but you can also set a Library specific language in the library settings.

Per user, if you manually select language tracks (for audio or subtitles) it will remember it for you next time you playback that title as well. For example, for anime, if the language options don’t click exactly right I can go in and set language and subtitle tracks via the web interface and my Roku will honor it when I go to playback that episode\movie weeks later.

“Forced” subs are recognized automatically as long as the language settings line up and tracks are flagged correctly. German default language on library, and a labelled German audio track with a German subtitle flagged with “forced” will automatically load that forced sub track.

Sometimes language files and subtitle files aren’t setup exactly right but you can edit them yourself if necessary - MKVToolnix is the usual tool. Or select them manually (web interface often gives better details when selecting tracks than some of the clients).

If you set a library specific language, I don’t know how it will interact with user account language preferences. I haven’t experienced it myself but I’m not sure how my account set for “English” default would interact with your Library if it’s set specifically for German.

These are completely different things.
The first is which audio and subtitle streams are getting selected automatically when playing an item.
The latter decides which language will be used in the metadata of your library (i.e. posters and descriptions).
They have no influence on each other.

For a regular german user, you want
Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks
PREFERRED AUDIO LANGUAGE = German
PREFERRED SUBTITLE LANGUAGE = German
AUTO-SELECT SUBTITLE MODE = Shown with foreign audio

The above does rely on your media files having proper meta tags, which are describing the language of the various audio and subtitle tracks within.

Thanks for clarifying that … I fiddled with language stuff a bunch on a new library with foreign language and was getting the different settings mixed up.

How would this work if you want different default languages per library like this user is requesting? They want “default English” for TV Shows and “default German” for movies. Not possible?

Unfortunately not at all.
There is no library-dependent language setting for audio and subtitle preferences.

btw. I can absolutely sympathize with the desire. I too would like different settings for my anime library. (dubbed anime are just …)
