Audio skipping causing delay

Ok… I’m going to grab my disk and rip it again.
I’ll make certain to keep the TrueHD track. ( I kept the DTS HD MA 7.1 )

to add onto this though, one way i fix the issue as I’m watching the movie is to press the left side of the circle on my shield pro remote to go back like 10 seconds. That will fix it. when it gets back to the burping point it will play through about half the time. the other half, it burps again.

I am upgrading to 8.2.2 now.

I’ll see if this is a regression from 8.2 or … ?

I’m working on getting you a link to my file so you can test with it. can you download a 40 gig file?

to clarify for those of you reading this in the future, the storage array where the movies are stored is capable of sustained Gigabit transfers so bandwidth or nas performance isnt an issue. also the server is directplaying so no issues with transcoding.

Yes. I have gigabit here now ( )

My file is about 50 GB so another 40 is fine.

Sending you a PM.

Hi, were you able to figure out a solution for this? I’m experiencing the same issue. I encounter it on the UHD Atmos Extended Edition versions of The Martian and Black Hawk Down. It happens at the same timestamps, which appear to be when its branching to an extended edition scene.

That’s a question for @ChuckPa
He was able to duplicate the issue but I never heard of it was resolved.

In the mean time I am using the Kodi player. It’s the only way I can actually watch some of my movies on my shield pro.

Pretty disappointed that I’m having it use a third party player to watch my movies honestly.

I’ve sent on my findings to Engineering and there was an update subsequent to that.

I’m sorry for not getting back timely.

I am running 8.13.2.23227 on my Shield - No issues with TrueHD or any of the audio codecs ; pass-through mode or shield processing it.

It might be time to get the logs of this happening so they can take a look at it

My comment was not directed at you Chuck. I know this is an issue that the devs need to resolve and you were very helpful in getting that info to them.

I sent logs earlier in this thread.

I’m doing some reloading here, from scratch, to see if anything has changed for me.

Where I’m having trouble:

  1. Both are wired.
  2. Both are high-end AVRs

I can hit it with 80+ Mbps without issue.

Give me a few please… Head-scratching time
I’m going to push through both the ATV 4K and Shield Pro 2019 – again

I get no skipping or anything here.

This is a good stress test of any Audio Video system.

59.94 Hz, 2160p, HEVC

Here’s it in action.

I was having my issue with the Extended version of The Martian. I provided you with .mkv file via DM. its still there if you need it.

One sec. I’ll go get it again to make sure I’m good.

You are not alone. I am having the same issue. Even lower 8MBS shows and movies do it.
Local playback only. From 1g wired 6ft from the switch.
Works fine from the Roku app.
Some shows in the same format play just fine but it is always the same shows that skip. No shows skip from the Roku or Web app.
Only the Shield app skips.
Seems like every 10 seconds.

Reinstall clear cache and data didn’t help.

Like the OP, I only experienced it with the extended edition of UHD + Atmos movies. I’ve experienced it at the same timestamps where I think it ‘loads’ an extended edition scene. Its occurred for me for Black Hawk Down Extended UHD and The Martian Extended UHD like the OP.

I too have that same problem with the UHD extended atmos version of “The Martian.” It appears to be an exoplayer issue as emby behaves the same way in the exact same places within the movie. Use VLC, Kodi, or mrmc and the file plays correctly and stays in sync. Someone on the other board took the DTS-HD blu ray sound track and remuxed that into the UHD 4K file in place of the atmos track and he was able to make that work fine so it stayed in sync.
