Audio Transcoding Dynamic Compression

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#: 8.22.0.27533 (bdaff3f3)

Plex is applying dynamic compression when transcoding audio and I can’t find a way to disable it. I noticed it when watching In the Heights that a heavy bass note caused the audio to drop in volume, and slowly creep back up. I transcoded the track myself to FLAC, remuxed it in, and it direct played without any audible compression. I’m not sure if it has always been doing this (I don’t think it has) but I would like to know what I need to do to disable it. Even if it involves some obscure edit in the server files. Part of the appeal of Plex was not needing to transcode the audio myself. I don’t want to go back.

Bump!

Please, I would really like to get this fixed. Is there no one on the Plex team that can at least tell me there’s a config file I can mess with? I do not want to go through my server and convert hundreds of files with eac3 audio to aac because Plex transcodes with DRC enabled. There has to be a way for me to disable it.

So apparently, the only way to achieve this is to compile a custom ffmpeg based transcoder?

I’m a paying Plex Pass customer. I expect some sort of response from staff. Even if it’s just to tell me to take it or leave it.

This sounds like what I am experiencing too! I am using a Sony TV 900H with Vizio 2.1 soundbar, and have turned off all dynamic audio settings. The volume cuts out when there’s a loud noise like a gun shot, and sometimes when I pause a movie, the volume drops to almost 0 and then slowly comes back after about a minute. I can confirm that the movies I’ve noticed this on are also EAC3 audio
