Audio-Video Sync Issues

I have a Day1 xbox one, and use a WD PR4100 as my media server.

I have a handful of video files that are in MP$ format, with AAC audio and are 1080p (1gb every 45mins).

When I play the video files on the web plex app, or browse and play the video files directly, they play fine.

When I play them on the xbox one, the audio is off by several seconds. Why would this be?
I wouldn’t expect the video to be transcoded, as it should be played on the xbox one natively.

To test this, I disabled direct play, and direct stream. Playing it now makes the xbox app glitch randomly during video, and the video image freezes, but audio continues.

I have tried combinations with direct play on, and direct stream off (and vice versa) to no avail.

The media server shows cpu utilization around 30% during transcoding, so it’s not the bottleneck.

What other information would anybody need to help troubleshoot the issues. If you need logs, where are they located, and what scenario should they be obtained? (as in, should I delete current ones, play the video for 30secs and then extract the logs?).

Sorry about the delay.

The absolute best thing to help try and troubleshoot this would be the Plex Media Server logs when trying to playback this file. If it is consistently happening in the file around a certain point a sample of the video might help as well. (IE after playing for 5 minutes or even right away)

Typically a sample file is very useful as I myself can’t reproduce this issue and neither could the developers. As the app itself doesn’t have any adjustments available for A/V timing the issue most likely will reside on the server aspect (But in either case the server guys will definitely want at least the server logs as well).

Alright, i can try and extract a 2 minute segment of the file, play with this file to see the issue persist, and then try and extract the logs. How should I upload the logs / sample file?

For logs you can attach the zip to the forum.
For sample files I usually just upload mine to my onedrive and then provide a link.

In both cases after I pulled them I can let you know or remove the links in the forum automatically for you.

Alright, i’ll try and post links tomorrow (if I have time) after I do some tests on this.

Here are my logs. I played an Episode of eureka. The files are .MP4 files with AAC.
The Xbox app is the latest, and the Plex server is the latest for my WD MyCloudP4100. Direct play / Direct stream were both enabled.

I played the video, let it play for 30 seconds, paused it for around 5 and played it again for around 5. The “desync” was still the same before/after the pause.

Due to that, I don’t think it’s a transcoding issue, but likely an offset built into a container for audio / video, that plex doens’t see.

The video plays fine in vlc when navigating to the network share, as well as the plex web app on chrome (mac).

If you want a sample of the video, I can use ffmpeg to cut a snippet of 30seconds or so and see if it persists with that (and would provide new logs).
