Audiobooks - incorrectly grouping of files

Server Version#:1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892 (Synology)
Player Version#:6.5 (iOS)

I have just started using Plex to manage my audiobooks. The library was previously managed via iTunes and the metadata was quite carefully managed. E.g. i have 5 books tagged as artist “Terry Pratchett”. Each book has unique artist and album tags which are both the same, eg “Wyrd Sisters (Discworld, #6; Witches #2)”

For some reason Plex is not reading the ‘albums’ of the files and is incorrectly adding a tag. So for all books by Terry Pratchett, they all have the album set as “Wyrd Sisters (Discworld, #6; Witches #2)”

The library has “prefer local metadata” option checked.

Why is Plex ignoring the album tag?

You could try changing the library agent to Personal Album Artist and do the Plex Dance:

  • move the album folders outside the library scope
  • scan the library for updates
  • empty trash / clear cache
  • move the album folders back in place
  • scan the library for updates again

Many thanks Tom. That has worked 99%…
Annoyingly, Plex has 410 albums and 418 tracks. In the folders i have 411 files. Is there a way i can easily export a list from Plex (preferably with metadata) so i can analyse the discrepancies?

There’s a plug-in called Export Tools that might help.
With movies/tv shows Plex will identify „duplicates“ with a blue-ish square in the top-left corner of a poster with the number of how many files/versions are bundled in this record. I haven’t yet tested this with artists/albums/songs but it might be worth a shot to check if an album of yours has accidentally been merged with another album

Read the Wiki! Or you’ll very likely won’t be successful.
