Auto play live TV? Like the trailers?

Just a suggestion. I always found it weird that live TV on Android TV didn’t just start when hovered (without sound, and then went fullscreen with sound as I pressed it) which I at least feel would be nicer.

Then came trailers which does exactly that. At least on Android TV. Cool.

And now in the new clients we have a preview popup for the live TV, which starts without audio until maximized. Very nice, this suits exactly to what I’m talking about.

But to my surprise, you still need to tap the channel for it to go into preview mode, kind of defeating the purpose of a preview popup a little bit.

My suggestion for a much nicer feel:

-On Android TV, start the selected channel muted in the preview area. On press, go fullscreen with audio.

-On Android Mobile, start the top (first) channel muted in the preview window. Then when the user scrolls down, the preview popup keeps reflecting the top most channel in the current view. So when the user scrolls, the preview constantly changes to the current topmost channel. Telegraph this by having the topmost channel being “highlighted” at all times.
Then the user can tap the highlighted channel to go straight to maximized with audio.

Both these scenarios will enable “zapping” which is currently not possible.

Bonus would be to provide options for the audio in the preview area. “Normal”, “Lowered” or “Muted (default)”.

You guys proved with trailers that it’s possible, and it feels like a fresh step forward imo.
