Posting this on May 3, 2019: Any updates on Plex just passing native resolution (i.e. leave 1080P as 1080P)? I can get both MIrMC and Kodi and to do so but the user interface of both of those products are very poor/clumsy/not “spouse friendly” when compared to Plex.
Plex support when will you implement this?
Plex support. - how far is this from being on the road map? There are other lower end media players that support this feature…
It’s on the road map, but it’s a long road.
I don’t have any specifics.
“Long road” as in “unlikely to be implemented this year” (2019) - or more sth. like “it’s in the top quarter of features to be implemented” ?
As I said, I have no specifics.
That’s too bad… Unfortunately this keep Kodi as my daily driver.
Functionality (video and audio quality) is a top priority for me.
That sucks, so the options are to use Kodi or manually change the resolution from 4K to 1080p on the shield?
I really do find the lack of an option to stop up-conversion of 1080P sources a huge issue. Other Shield based products support it (Kodi, MrMC) so we know it is not a platform issue. I’m clearly not the only one who wants this option. And as great as a 4K image looks coming from the Shield/Plex, the quality of the up-conversion from 1080P to 4K by Plex looks really lousy on a large screen. REALLY. Both my projector and, more importantly, my Lumagen does a much , much, much better job.
So as a result of this very inferior up-scaling, I am forced to switch to Kodi to watch regular 1080P BluRays, whose interface is nowhere near as nice as is that of Plex. I suppose I could manually switch to 1080P but then I need to remember to switch it back for 4K.
So what is the big deal to keep this item so low on the priority list???
Recenly, Plex delivered an update with a new Player and Auto-Resolution function working on, 2 weeks ago. For some reason, player and the new feature was disabled, anybody knows something?
I cant find any information about that, but i’ve experimeted it in may own setup.
There were still some hiccups with the new player. It will be made available again after we fix a few things.
Any idea of the time frame for the re-release of this important feature? That is the only feature that keeps Plex on the Shield from being the perfect streaming solution.
I was so glad to see and try this feature.
The only issue I have noticed is that when auto resolution switching to 720p content the auto refresh rate doesn’t switch (stays 60fps rather than 24fps). 1080p behaves fine.
Yeah, there is still a glitch getting both of those functions working together.
Three questions: (1) Does it work for 1080P material? (don’t care about any other lesser rates); (2) how and from where do I download it (version #?); (3) where do I adjust the parameters to tell it to not up-convert?
Can you please confirm if this function is back yet? Thanks
I can see this option again in settings. But turning it off is playing videos in a small window in the centre of the screen. I have set videos to play in their Original size in player settings.
Also how will this work in conjunction with Shield AI upscaling feature? Because I believe I need Plex to not switch resolution for below 4K content for Shield AI upscalling to work.
