Auto Scan Libraries

Has anyone noticed that the Nvidia Shield PMS is now auto scanning libraries? I remember I always had to do manual scans for years. Even with the option turned on. But it was never possible for me. All of a sudden a few days ago both my Shield PMS’ are auto scanning libraries.

Oh. Really? Where is your media located?

This is how I have Plex setup

I have a main, central PC that I use as my main PMS.

I connect external drives to it for Plex storage.

I enable network sharing amongst those drives

then I mount those shared drives to the Nvidia Shield’s storage (I have 2 Shield’s) over my home network and I configure the directories in the Shield PMS to read from the network attached storage.

I added things this morning and after work I checked and they were listed in Plex via auto scan. Not sure how this is happening.

I don’t see the sense in doing it this way.
If you already have a Plex server on your desktop PC, there is no need for more servers on your Shields. No need to enable the network shares on the shields, no need to enable the Plex server on the Shields. All they need is the Plex client.

Particularly if the desktop PC has to stay running, for the network file shares to remain available.

I appreciate the concern and the advice. I actually do need them as servers as I have many many users (friends, family). 1 server would not suffice. I will ask you to believe me on that.

And yes, my PC I use for PMS is always on as well as I have 4.
