Im relatively new to plex but over the last couple of months I’ve come to love it. One feature request that I thought of today was a pre-transcoding option. I know that I have an ipad and a roku that I want the video file to be ready for. It would be great if I could set plex to pre-transcode all the movies/tv-shows that are still unwatched to the needed 2-3 formats. After all hard drive space is not as expensive as it used to be. Then when the movie/episode becomes watched it deletes the extra files automatically.
You can do that now for the iPad using the Plex Sync feature, using PMS web interface you can select the files you want transcoded and for which devices, PMS will then transcode the files and when the client is logged in will then transfer the transcoded files to the device.
You can also set it to delete the file once watch and how may unwatched files you want transferred.
I don’t think this is supported for roku yet and you need to be a plex pass member to access it.
