Just like having optimised versions for streaming, we should have the option to have the transcoded sync files in folders on the server.
My use case is having 3 iPads for the kids. Plex is almost exclusively used for travel on these iPads, and the kids want virtually the same content. As it is now, all content has to be transcoded and sync’d on each iPad individually, which is really time consuming, causing transcoding queueing and I have to start preparing the iPads at least two days before departure. If due to some Plex app update the content has become unsync’d, it tries to transcode and download all sync’d content already on the full iPad, only recourse is to delete the app and start fresh.
If the kids libraries were pre-transcoded for sync, all that would be needed was to download the sync’d content, which could happen simultaneously on all 3 devices.
