Automatically convert .ts to mp4 option

Next project - please provide a somewhat simple option to convert .ts files to mp4, so that we can download load tv shows which have been converted and occupy less space, thereby creating smaller files to download. I tried several post processing scripts, but have seen them often fail after a Plex upgrade. I finally gave up.

Server Version#: N/A
Player Version#: N/A
Tuner Make/Model: Hauppauge 4 tunee

Using XMLTV?: No

IIRC and based on the support article, a number of HDHomeRun models will already allow that (either through the tuner itself or as an experimental feature inside Plex)

I think only the EXTEND model of HDHomeRun could perform transcoding on the device, but I also think that was configured on the device itself. I don’t think any current models do so.

I believe CONVERT VIDEO WHILE RECORDING setting happens on the Plex server, and should be available with any tuner, assuming your Plex server can handle the transcoding.

I think.

Thanks but I have the Haupaugge 4 tuner card and no such option exists.

I have both tuners set to CONVERT VIDEO WHILE RECORDING but it didn’t make any difference. The file is still a .TS file.

I’m not an expert on Plex’s tuner integration.

.TS files can contain different video codec streams. If you get info on the media, is it MPEG2 or H.264/AVC?

It’s MPEG-2 at a 14.5 MB bitrate. That’s 3 GB for a 30 minute show.

That sounds about right. One episode of Jeopardy is just under 3gb, and that’s with the commercials being cut.
