Background DVR convert from .ts to H264 or H265

I have a large library of TV Shows collected via DVR which stores the recordings as .ts files. These are MPEG2 files and it seems I could save storage space on my NAS if there was a way to automatically convert .ts files to H265 (or H265) files in the background.

I found a set of scripts on github here:

Seems like it would be better to have this feature built into Plex. Any ideas? Worth a feature request?

If you would like a simple and free solution to change file containers, MKVToolnix is a fantastic solution and some. Adding Subtitles, removing unwanted subs, Adding Track Flags, naming, Joining split movies and more. A must have when collecting a Library.
