I want Plex to not only tell me via metadata that the file is 3-D, I also want it to launch a command to the television automatically enter 3-D mode. Would be an awesome feature, especially if it made it to the Roku app, but I'd be happy for a laika release first, if that's all that can be done at this time. Thank you!
I read this on another thread just this evening and tried and it worked. If you as H-SBS or H-TAB (depending on which type of 3D) to the file name and re scan your media it should automatically enter 3D mode. Example file name "Men in Black 3 H-SBS.mkv" I tried this from my Samsung TV and it worked perfectly. Also when I hit the 3D button on the remote it was able to convert it back to 2D without having to go through the menu to tell it to do that. As far as having it say in the media manager that it is 3D I have not seen anything
This is indeed supported on the Samsung TV client, but I'm not sure about other clients, or if it is even possible.
You will need access to the TV hardware directly, or be able to send a command to it, which would be a challenge if you don't know the mark model etc..
I know this is an ancient thread, but it aligns with my question: is there an “agreed upon” file format or naming convention that seems to be at least semi-reliable with telling the TV when something is 3D?
I have a ripped movie that when I play it in Plex my 2015 model, LG TV detects and switches into the correct 3D format magically. I have no idea why or how. It’s an MKV-TAB file. The file name is “MOVIE-TITLE 3D-HTAB.mkv”. However, when I play it, the TV will switch in and out of TAB mode automatically.
When I tried a similar naming scheme on other 3D MKV’s it didn’t work.
I also tried the above Samsung “H-TAB/H-SBS” naming and no dice.
