Feature request: 3D at a glance

Hello Plex pals,

Recently, I have delved into the 3D realm. The first issue encountered is the ability to differentiate, 2D from 3D titles while browsing the library. We all know someone who gets headaches from 3D or they just dislike it. That leaves accomodating the "Entertainmentally Challenged" by adding both the 2D and 3D versions of the same movie to the library.

When browsing it can be difficult to tell which version is which. Since anyone running 3D content will likely be using the H-SBS or Half-SBS file naming convention, Plex will already know which titles are 3D.

So please Plex devs, help us identify the 2D and 3D content at a glance by implementing this feature.

Thank you.

Great idea! I would love to see this feature added.

I don't think it will be able to tell 3D unless it can figure out the video is sbs. this would have to actually have some software that plays a small clip to see if its sbs 3d. plus you have spiderman 2 on 3d already!!!! ;). I just go and edit the poster and title. 99% of the 3d movies I have shows the 3d poster I just have to choose it as the default.

Not sure on this. Orca's awesome plex app for the Samsung TV auto switches the TV to not only 3D but also to the correct type simply by adding H-TAB or H-SBS to the file name. :)

Plex use FFMPEG.

With that, it should be possible

Hmmmm......So every 3D movie should have a Spiderman poster ?

Hehehe......Just kidding, and liked the first post

Yep, they all should be Spiderman, all of the other posters are boring :P. All kidding aside, implementing this feature could be a step in a bigger direction. I would imagine that as other types of content become available the differntiation between content will be even more important. 4K and 3D content will become more common in the future; users will probably want to easily to identify content.

Just have it change the poster with 3d glasses.

Hahaha! Good one! Makes me wish i thought of it first. :)

Good idea for now I keep my 3d in a seperate folder and set it up as a 3d library as 2 out of the 3 of us get headaches from it

Can Plex even play 3D movies?  :)

It sure can! However the naming convention is critical; if the files are not named properly Plex will not know how to process the playback. For 3D side-by-side this convention works: moviename H-SBS.mp4 or moviename Half-SBS.mp4. Both the H-SBS and Half-SBS will work. It also supports the top-and-bottom formatted 3D with this convention moviename H-TAB.mp4 or moviename Half-TAB.mp4

Of course you'll need a 3D capable TV and the appropriate glasses. I have a Samsung H6400 series TV with Smart Hub, the 3D works beautifully through the TV's Plex app.

Improperly formatted titles or hardware lacking 3D support will end up looking like this:

It's a great idea. Plex should also use the same functionality as in XBMC 13 : the possibility, when watching a 3D movie, to watch it in 3D or in 2D.
