AV1 transcode with arc a310 eco

I just installed an Intel arc a310 eco to handle AV1 transcoding. The computer I’m using has a 10th Gen Intel chip so an AV1 software transcode uses about 70% of the CPU for one transcode. The card is installed, drivers are up to date and Plex is set to use the a310 for transcodes. When I play an AV1 file on a device that isn’t compatible the GPU is just in copy mode. It doesn’t process the video. It just copies it back to the CPU and software transcodes. So now I’m still using 70% of the CPU while throwing in another 30% of the GPU just to copy it over. Does anyone know how to fix this or what I’m doing wrong?

My Plex server is on a Windows 11 PC with a Ryzen 7000 CPU.
It has a Ryzen eGPU which enabled in the firmware, but isn’t used.
For video I am using an Intel A380 card.
I personally do not use av1 because non of my playback devices support it
I grabbed a AV1 video and added it to my collection in Plex.
My Roku TV does not support AV1 so I played it on my Roku and Plex used the A380 (ARC) to HW transcoded the video.
The video posted back smoothly on my TV.

*** Dinky – you should probably post your logs so someone can see where the problem you are experiencing is occurring.

Thank you for doing that. At least I know it should work. I didn’t get the card in until late yesterday so I didn’t have much time to play around with it. I planned to pull the logs today after work and I’ll update from there.

Plex Transcoder Statistics.log (38.1 KB)

I uploaded a transcoder stat from another AV1 4k attempt. Same result, the GPU copies without doing much work and the CPU handles the load. If there are other logs needed just tell me which ones, or all of them. I appreciate any that is able to help me diagnose what the problem is.

I did just run another quick test with handbreak. I don’t know if this says anything but they were all mkv transcodes. I ran a h.265 to AV1, an AV1 4k to AV1 1080p, and an AV1 to h.265. in all cases the video encoder was active in task manager. When transcoding AV1 through Plex only the copy is active. Again, unfortunately, I don’t know what this means other than the encoding and decoding works.
