Availability?

Yep there are, but it certainly varies depending on where in the world you are. Currently, anyone in the US has the best offering of headliners. We’re hoping to expand this, of course. Worldwide is our game

Same. I have a home account user named Kid Pass and saw this new Younger Kid, Older Kid, Teen selection in Restrictions. Problem that I keep seeing is that even after I select Younger Kid, the LIVE TV and DVR section does not update with the restrictions. I hope this won’t be the same behavior with the Plex Movie and TV Library.

Seriously, my wife was thrilled about that. Nice to see some TV shows mixed in.

BTW thanks for stopping by on release day and chatting openly about specifics on the project and the progress. It’s really a great way to get an intro to the product. Honestly, the current catalog is a bit limited for our taste, but it’s also not being disabled in my user account, so that’s a good sign.

It’s my pleasure!! We’re very excited about doing this along continuing to improve PMS. This specific endeavor has been my focus for a while now, and I have a strong desire to make this successful. We’re actively expanding the catalog daily. Right now I’ve got a bunch more from Lionsgate coming in, and we’re working on some key partners to expand our genres. Think anime, Japanese game-shows, Bollywood, more international titles, more TV series, more classic film restorations.

Me thinks Plex might finally become a viable standalone app install, without the need for a server.

That’s good to hear, but please don’t forget your overseas “market”. The uk content selection is, shall we say, a placeholder at present? :grinning:

The biggest issue is that you cannot browse the full content currently. You’re only seeing the hubs. Try the search.

I suspect the ad frequency/count is going to vary. I just streamed an hour and twenty minute movie in the background and did not encounter a single ad.

How about subtitles?
Any news on that?
Will they ever be available?

Everyone has a different tolerance for these sorts of things; just because yours is relatively low doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy what’s being offered.

We will add subtitle support in a future update. I don’t have a time frame, but shouldn’t be too long.

Thank you very much for such a fast response.

I run a Pi-Hole and it does not (yet?). But honestly, this is one of the situations where I’d whitelist it anyway.

It also that means that at least two of us in this thread are thinking that 6 ads in 30 minutes is basically having your brains bashed out with advertising - only the most hardened veteran of Live TV Advertising or Cracklesque Endurance Training could ever tolerate.

I guess the real question is how many of us have the Herculean ability to endure advertising at those rates - and how many do not.

I don’t. That’s absolutely certain. I use Plex to get away from advertising. Not so I can sit back, relax, and enjoy more of it than I’ve seen in the last 10 years - in 30 minutes.

BTW: In the 40 minutes of excruciating pain watching the worst encoding job of Moonstruck I’ve EVER seen - bar NONE… I never saw an ad. It was like a horror show ride at the fair when I was 9 - dreading what I knew was coming…but never arrived…lol

yes, but most of us are admins and collectors of media.

like most of the other plex provided content, they are more for our USERS who don’t/can’t/won’t run their own server.

if you don’t like it/won’t use it, then disable it and it’s out of your hair.

i’ve watched 2 videos, and the quality was very good (on an ipad).

as mentioned elsewhere, like netflix they have multiple different encodes and qualities for different clients and download speeds.

i’ll check out moonstruck to see if there is any huge difference than the other videos I watched so far.

edit, oh yeah that looks like a dvd or pre-bluray sourced encode.

If you’re like me you’ll get interested in it again - then have to finish with the local copy when your eyeballs start bleeding - and I’m the blind one… (Cher is so pretty in that one - how’s that for proof…lol)

True enough Plex is looking for a whole new user base - different from the one they have currently. It is, what it is.

I’m not able to find the content anywhere on any iOS devices or via web portal, can only access the content on my WD NAS drive, how do I find content served by PLEX or will switching from my server to one of there’s need doing every time I want to see, Watch there content? If so how do I do this on either iPad, iPhone or Apple TV 4K?
