Avi not longer work on synology version 1.19 or 1.18

Many of the “MKV FIX” utilities are just wrappers around your exact ffmpeg command, or around mkvmerge.

I’ve just started playing with Tdarr, and the health check, encode, process, via “recipe” capability is pretty great. Might be perfect here. Remux files with compatible codecs, reencode as appropriate.

MKVToolNix can remux as many as you can drag and drop to the interface. I recently remuxed about 1400 of 'em - I oughta know - and the very latest MKVToolNix can also fix broken HEVC files that are missing a key component - so, yea… get the latest version.

Unfortunately only about half of those AVI files will actually work after that. Some of those streams won’t go in anything other than an AVI file - and still work.

Raise your hand if you still have G.728 audio in .AVI! Wait, just me?

I still have the first QuickTime preview/SDK disk from 1991 somewhere. I wonder if the samples would still play. It’s easy to forget how amazing the codecs have become.

Before I found out that Doctor Who sucked - I had about a million of those early-pre-shower-man AVI files that looked like they’d been bounced off The Moon. Then there was the million MST3Ks that came from the same encoder (a 3 legged marsupial - untrained).

Doctor Who was easy - I just deleted all of those (I guess you had to be there), but I did eventually get all those MST3Ks and then some.

NONE of those AVI things I had would mux - they all sucked a special kind of ass and began a long hate/hate more relationship with AVI files in general that will last until my bucket-kickin’ day.

of course i am trying to recreate the issue i roll back my synology 220 plus to version 1.16 where all files working. avi specially.

and got the logs… then upgrade to 1.19 and all working normally on my shield , tv , web, android, etx and also got the log,

i am now waiting for a few hours where will stop working to share all 3 logs from all diferent attempts.

in the meantime i am following thrumpy advice and trying to convert all avi to mp4.

i will be back with the remaining log soon sir

all logs i got are here… sorry i am not very knowledgeable here in the forum .

as i mentioned after installed version 1,19 work for a bit then stop all avi .

i hope it helps

thanks

Thank you for those logs but you’ve done yourself a huge disservice .

You turned off DEBUG logging.

Log file sizes are fixed. Nothing is saved.
Turning off DEBUG (which is the default) denies us the information we need to figure out what’s happening.

I’m sorry but these are useless.

Ohhh really…

I need to find out how to turn it on …

My bad .

I’ll be back

can you check now?

sorry first time dealing with this

Not there yet.

It’s right where you turned if off.

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
  2. Check the box to enable DEBUG logging
  3. SAVE button (important)
  4. Now restart and recapture.

its on check the zip seems a lot more info in there

It will always tell us it’s building the diagnostics log ZIP.

also please notice that here, at the bottom, there are no DEBUG statements.

Please restart PMS.

When you clicked save, did it report “Your changes could not be saved” ?

I ask because nothing was saved.

We can force debug logging back on if you’re willing to use FileStation and the Synology Text Editor (GUI) .

Sound like a plan?

If so, Please go to Package Center and install Text Editor (Synology app). Their text editor is accessed via FileStation , which is perfect for what we need.

Then,

  1. Stop Plex
  2. File Station -> Plex -> Library -> Application Support -> Plex Media Server
  3. Right click on Preferences.xml -> Open in Text Editor
  4. Go to the bottom line, right before the /> and type
  5. logDebug="1"
  6. Save the file
  7. Start Plex and wait 2 minutes.

Now, what I am able to discern tells me Plex isn’t connected to the internet and can’t get the codecs it needs.

You have a Syno -> Router -> ISP modem/router configuration with an incorrect configuration or is the Syno not plugged in at all?

Supplemental,

Because of the CPU in this NAS, we will add a custom Preference to Preferences.xml a bit later after we get the basics working.
