I am currently sharing my files with some of my family members and it would be great, if you could just make plex to take the avaialable versions when a video is playing, instead of making my server to transcode.

There actually is an existing feature suggestion asking for what’s described in the OP.
I suggest you comment/vote in that existing thread to avoid distracting/dispersing the attention (=votes).
@JuiceWSA : the suggestion you’ve linked is relevant but from the OP’s perspective it’s just another workaround. It’s not what this suggestion is about.
As for closing duplicate threads… you make it sound like there’s some malicious intent about it.
Therefore… yes, indeed!.. closing this thread as a duplicate.
