Awesome 2020 Black Friday 14 TB External Hard Drive for only $184

I just bought a WD - easystore 14TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive on the online Black Friday sale that just started today at Best Buy website for only $184. Just for a comparison the best Amazon Black Friday current Flash deals can give you for $180 is a 10 TB external hard drive. This drive is normally $300, so not sure how much longer they will last.

The link to the drive is HERE.

I bought this one as a physical back up for my NAS PR4100 raid 10 array. But could be a great way to affordably expand your Plex server available storage.

I just picked it up from the store. Now to run all the WD Utilities tool tests to verify everything is good with the drive out of the box (always a good safe practice). With a drive this size I expect it take anywhere between 35 hours to 4 days if I do both WD and Windows CHKDSK checks.

It actually took just over 29 hours to complete (and pass) the WD Utilities complete hard drive test…faster that I anticipated.

Silly me for not checking before hand…but the Comcast XB7 modem/router does not have a USB port at all. I didn’t realize Comcast disabled USB ports they did have and now just refuses to include them on their latest equipment.

Then I thought, no biggie, I will just plug it into the USB port on my WD My Cloud PR4100 NAS server. But in Western Digital’s infinite wisdom, they do not support NAS network access to USB connected drives to their NAS servers (they are only for connecting USB drives to internally and directly back up the Raid).

So this weekend I am going to dust off my old router and cascade it to the Comcast router as my old router has a USB 3.0 port.

Boy…what should be just an easy plug into a USB port step with a standard USB option supported by Comcast latest router or WD PR4100 NAS server giving external USB hard drive access…snowballs into a mini weekend project.
